Please Vote on OOB Language
SPCamo want to know if you'd like more english in the formation and units names of SP:

They have a poll with these choices:

* I like things just the way they are

* I'd be happier if at least the formation names were in English

* I'd be even happier if the formation names and the unit names were in English

The poll is here:

This is what I posted:

I finally voted for:

I'd be happier if at least the formation names were in English

I had to think about this for a while. I speak only english, and sometimes struggle with that . (After all, that's why we fought the war, so we all wouldn't end up having to speak German Big Grin )

However, I enjoy learning some of the original language names for units and equipment; and some nuances are lost in translation.

I also very much appreciate that this is an international game and community, and don't think english should be the exclusive language used.

But in the end, the one thing that we almost all have in common is at least a basic grasp of english. It's the closest thing we have to an international language.

Using english for only the formations is probably the best compromise. I think it will speed up the OOB learning curve and encourage people to experiment with a greater variety of nations. But we won't lose the orignal flavour of the units.

What do you guys think?

And don't forget to vote...

English, I hate having to look at the pictures to figure out what the hell I am buying. I don't think having a German or Russian (Italian etc etc) name on a unit adds anything to the game.

RE: Please Vote on OOB Language
Hi Guys
I voted for no change.
I like the international flavour and after all this time playing, I know all most of the words now...if I discover one I do not understand, I enjoy the challenge of learning something new.

I agree with Epo...hardcore!

How about an option to turn it on and off, as I like the foreign OOBs but have a hell of a time trying to figure out what they are at a glance. :conf:

I think it is good for you English native speaking fellows at some level to cope with the things we others have to struggle with ;)
Damn - on the camo site one suggested to use abbreviations - HELP - do you know much abbreviations are a plague for us non native English speaking guys  - consider for a while a situation, where you not only had Hungarian and Finnish names in the order of battle - but only abbreviations Big Grin
On the other hand, a possibility to turn it on and off seems like a good suggestion.Big Grin

RE: Please Vote on OOB Language
why dont they issue 2 sets of OObs like we did for SP Enhanced?
one in native languages, for those who like them, and one in English only for those who prefer.

They can be played against each other in PBEM, you will get security message, but it can be bypassed because data wise the oobs are identical, only difference is language, altho not sure how the camo games security routines work.

I am not 100% sure, but in the shrapnel forums, I remember Andy and Don writing that they are not going to do that because of security issues and work load. Two sets of OOBs means nearly 2x more work when updating them.
