Contact Front ! ok we are taking round at range from the cross roads - not only one little icon indicating some troops there but lots of noise .. split squad troops have panicked but only a few casualties... the have a short way to crawl to the safety of tree line ...

Sounds familiar! Are you moving your armour up at all yet?

REALLY carefully... ! they can provide support at 1000m so no need to risk them as I have no idea where the AT guns are ... (they must have some !)

Comrade Commanders,

The victory in the center presents us with some opportunities next round.

We could assume that the opponents will try to bolster their central zone to preclude another smashing defeat. I haven't seen the end screen yet but it seemed like there was no more than a few companies of regular German infantry, no ATG, some mortars.

This could mean that we should bolster the Right and Left Flank (and now Left Flank x 2) attacks to continue with the envelopment of Tatsinskya. Please try to ascertain opponent strength in your sectors as your battles progress.

With that in mind let's see what we get in terms of reinforcements.

If we get substantial reinforcements it might be fun to try a raid as in the original battle.

Discussion?

I'm going to try to post some shots of my battle in the DAR section, but I've come across a gun which took out a T-70, but was in turn dispatched by a mortar. As well, there was at least a platoon of infantry in one factory on my far left, leading me to wonder if all the factory complexes are equally guarded. If you seem to have faced 1-2 companies, then quite possibly I'll have the same amount to contend with. I've just finished Turn 25, and must report concern at being able to meet my objectives (is that the sound of a pistol being cocked Eek).

Given your victory, I agree the Germans will have to consider pouring their reinforcements there. On the other hand, perhaps they will give way a bit there, and hold firm in the flanks? That way they may let you advance, then encircle you, give you a crushing blow, and then deal with the flanks. Just a thought - it's something I would consider:stir: I guess we'll have to see the ultimate result of Wombat's and my battles before making a final decision.

Regarding the raid on the airfield, I think that is ultimately our main goal - its just a question of when, and then how to hold it once the German panzer reinforcements arrive. The big decision down the road I think is do we try to hold the town and the airfield, or focus on keeping the airfield alone?

Depends on the objective flags and how much good defense terrain there is, may be we cover the airfield with fire but don't occupy it if it is in the open.

I'm hoping the two flank battles will end in victory or enemy withdrawal as well as I presume we are working against the clock and the time the Panzer reinforcements show up.

Using the T-34s to blast the buildings the opponent was occupying worked well for me this time but likely they won't make that mistake again.

The enemy has disengaged, Your men report that they have found about 130+/- dead or severely wounded German soldiers from 2 different companies and 5 various platoons. Most are Luftwaffe Infantry with few Regular Infantry. Your Task Force looks as follows:
The T-34 with the damaged gun will be abandoned in the field as there is no access to repair crews. (The tank was rolled for to see if the damage was a field fix, and it was not)
I will have to wait and see what the other 2 battles provide to make a decision on the map, but the Germans that you fought will have no influence on flag possesion.
