Attention Newbies!!
At the risk of sounding like a pompous ass, I offer the following advice for all new players.
Seek out and play the grizzled old timers. Don't worry about wins and losses. Pay attention and learn from these games. Most will give tips and tricks freely. Some only if they are asked. I am in this camp most of the time.
My first dozen games resulted in a record of 1 win 9 losses and 2 draws. One of the draws was really a major loss. The only victory was in a very unbalanced scenario. The average ELO of my opponents was 2150.
I had be playing CS against the AI for years and thought I was a very skilled player. I soon learned that this game is hard to master.
My most gererous opponents taught me the basics of H2H play.
Shoot and scoot, surround, disrupt and capture, the value of spotters, etc.
With the help of these gentlemen, I have learned to become a better player. My winning percentage has climbed to 60% and my ELO is 2180. I could not have achieved this with out taking my lumps at the hands of the best.
Sorry if this offends anyone. I only want to help.

RE: Attention Newbies!!
Well said! My history was the same. Loss after loss (Smedley was one of many that show me that I’m not so good than I though:)) till I’ve asked more experienced players (Relayer and Valor ) about some tips and I even won with them.

Something that might be nice would be the writing of some AAR's when playing newbie to show other newbies some of the basic skills, correction of general mistakes and key elements the veterans have learned over the years.

Why not direct new players to all the hints, tips, suggested tactics and other bootcamp documentation found in the JTCS game manuals folder? :chin:

You'd hope that would be the first place they'd look already!
Plus, everyone likes a good AAR.

RE: Attention Newbies!!
Aside from my other matches I have been learning a hell of a lot from Mr Roadrunner and Alfons (Huib) who have been kind enough to continue battle after battle with me. Long may this continue as playing tough competition will always raise the individuals game and overall enjoyment :).
It has made a rather large difference in my results versus different players. Not to mention they are always willing to answer questions or critique a strategy.
One can never improve without continuous challenge. As for the stats I really don't care as long as my opponents and I are both having fun.
If I want to stat-whore I can always gloat over my EvE-Online combat record.
**EDIT**Writing an AAR is difficult timewise. If I were to do it possibly a 3-image screenshot series featuring a couple moves in...middle game...and end game with a short summary to keep it light.

It would be nice to see Umbro's AAR on the Nijmegen scenario you played with him published to the general public. Is it still not finished?

RE: Attention Newbies!!
If you look my profile, I get my butt kicked everytime I play wether its Panzer Campaigns, Campaigns Series, or Civil War.
It usually goes good on the first half, but then an extra company or something like that comes out of no where, finishing me off.Something always goes wrong.
I remember one Battle in Rising Sun, I had taken the Airfield and the bridge but 2 turns later hordes of British show up(literally coming from no where) retaking the bridge and causing my demise.

I agree, everyone loves a good AAR.
I also love a good tactics thread. I would try to start one but, and my record backs this up, my tactics are not to be emulated.

I am sorry to say that I lost the thread on this project after completing about half of it.
I was thinking of posting it in its current form and if there is enough interest using that as a motivation to finish it.
What do you think?
