MB board and usage
Members want to lighten up here the board is for general disscusion and game rules queries etc etc.Granted subjects get heated etc no probs someone doesnt like it dont respond or send a private message.A lot of the replys etc are windupsEd is good at that he means no harm.Club moderaters might want to take this in hand before final punishment ie banned. You might want to block offensive messages etc or send e-mail to certain members before this kind of action is needed.Granted i might up being banned but we all have a right to decent speech.

''You might want to block offensive messages''
Offensive messages have no place in here in the first place?
Perhaps this message should have gone to the moderators by PM rather than making it a public debate. I think SG explained the issues excellently and dealt with them accordingly. The debates this past week have been carried out in a refreshing way imho.
No disrespect matey, just felt I should say it.

RE: MB board and usage
No probs Pete my message is probably a protest for the way some members are being treated.Offensive messages can take many forms depends on who they are for and what the content is.IE i regulary sent Randy offensive message's on the MB but in good taste and Randy knew it.Like i said in above mb the moderators have the power to block such stuff warn etc why let it go so far as to ban someone.Just my thoughts on it.

RE: MB board and usage
Fair enough matey. I think we all have to remember that, bar a few members who have met up, most of us are 'virtual comrades' ? I think the offensive remarks to these people are out of order, amongst 'friends' ok?
We also have to bear in mind, the moderators are giving their' time voluntarily and many of us would not have the time to spend doing that, so, at the moment they seem to be allowing debate without interference until complaints are made. I agree with you, the old style of jumping in to block threads is probably the best option, but with the aforesaid, maybe not an option?
Also, note the comments SG made, a fair number of complaints have been made, it's no small matter?
regards
Peter

RE: MB board and usage
I appreciate your input John.
In a nutshell, we have very few rules, and for the most part, people don't cross the lines. For the past year we have, after numerous requests to do so, followed a more hands off approach in the moderation of the forums. Unless people complain about a post, we pretty much let it ride. If we see something that clearly violates the rules we'll step in without being asked, but for the most part, people need to let us know they are offended/bothered by something before we will check it out and/or step in.
We're all grown men here, most of us past 40 years old. We shouldn't have to even have moderators or rules in my opinion. Treat people decently and they will treat you decently in return.
Of course, if the members of the forum want tight moderation we can go to full fledged moderation too. Slows down the discussion but it will darn sure nip the nasty comments in the bud.

huh? they were offensive? :chin:
:P
Never took too much anyone said too seriously here.. John, Just the attention seeking ones who wanted to be sarcastically and sneaky in their replies tended to bring out the axe swinger in me. I always felt that in my tenure here, my motives were never more than what the majority of members wanted.
Never could figure out why folks wasted time pushing each another's buttons, trying to instigate something out of nothing, instead of just playing the games and sharing an opinion or an Idea of theirs
and getting on with it.
Kinda why I don't think I've posted a game here in almost a year, Just lost heart.

That's a shame Red. That is the whole reason of some of my posts, past and present - I can see a lot of people giving up bothering with the Forum and a lot of newbies being frightened off. All for the comments of a few. I feel I have been cast as having a vendetta, but the only vendetta I have is, allow people to air their' ideas without being driven into the ground for them and, disappearing from the site, especially when it's done in an abusive nature?

RE: MB board and usage
Peter, you've never come across as having a vendetta to me, we share the same philosophy in the sense of not chasing folks away for their opinions and ideas with aggressive retorts.
Many are passionate of the games, but they let their passion get in the way of positive debate and disallow any diversity or open minded acceptance on their own part, anyone who joins the topic daring to be different or not as understanding, gets the impatient and often aggressive side of someone, that's when we get the "Pile on" buzzer and the debate ends with a few sparring sides taking over and ruining the experience.
I always felt if you can't contribute in a positive non-cynical manner, don't respond. As adults, posters know what should and should not be posted, If you can't say it to the person in front of your face, why did you even go there.
My moderation style upset a few folks because I treated violators as they treated others, and a lot of them just never got it. Club better or worse for it? Hard to say.. Games are still being played, but the posting is wary, simply for the matter of fear retaliation and most folks just can't be arsed anymore to try and discuss something when they already know the outcome.
