Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.

Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.
I am an experienced and devoted player of SPMBT and only a couple of days ago I bought SPWWII. I would like to find an opponent who is willing to play some of the default scenarios from the original game set as I am much interested in history and recreating some of the engagements. If anyone is keen on SPMBT I also accept the challenge.
Just in case my e-mail is [email protected] or [email protected]

RE: Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.
I am up for some MBT action. I have no DL slots (1-4) open, but all the odd numbered slots between 10 and 20 and anything over 20.
My only restriction is on ICM/AP arty. I'll want either no ammo resupply or a limit on tubes. 1 demi-battery of 3 or 4 tubes works best. That way nobody can swamp the map with ICM and yet they can still reload. That throws off the fast arty guys that can count shots.

RE: Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.
Thnaks a lot for a fast reply and it's good that You're up for a MBT PBEM; I have been playing a Vietnam War scenario against a good friend of mine but he started to get a beating and became slow to respond so the session stalled. However, I am affraid that I don't get fully the idea that you're putting forward; does it reqire to alter a default scenario or what? ... Does AP stand for "armour piercing / penetrating" or that's something in terms of SPMBT gameplay mechanics? Funny thing is that asking of mine since I have stated that I am an experienced player - thus I meant I have played dozens of scenarios, but I am only starting to play the game in PBEM mode and I'd really like to stick to default scenarios and their settings, no matter whether they are balanced or not. From my experience I know that lots of them are very accurate in terms of historical detail and I am aiming at tackling the historic situation to see how well or bad we are going to perform against each other. That's why I am not happy with any restrictions that might go against history or assumptions based on historic circumstances when it comes to some fictional scenarios, but set in more or less historical framework. Let me know what you think.

I could play a SPWW2 ver4 scenario. Pick one and send the files if you are still interested.

Sure I am.
I'll set the game up today and send it right away. Thanks for the will to fight on - I have been lacking it for some time.

RE: Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.
Experienced means you have played MANY games against human opponents.
Thousands of games against the Program means you just know how to work the interface.
Computers are not sneaky. Computers don't set traps or try to fool you about what they intend to do. The computer doesn't withdraw from an uneven firefight. It especially won't withdarw thru a trap in hope that you follow.

ICM/AP are Improved Cluster Munitions that shoot bomblets with very good Armor Penetration values against the top armor of the target. Being cluster munitions they cover a wide area with many small yet powerful bombs (bomblets) . So if one has enough of them, it is possible to just walk them across a map, destroying all the vehicls they catch. Not much fun and not quite what the game is about.
ICM/AP does exist and should be in the game. It has yet to be proven on the battlefield, so whether of not it works as the game says it does is debatable. So I like to negoiate limits on it's use.

We can stilll play if you want. I will consider it a training game and declare a draw regardless of the actual outcome. Unless, you win, of course. You can imagine that, but I can't.
The program doesn't scout, so it has no idea how to combat scouts. It doesn't terrain drive either. If you plan on playing humans you will need to learn how to terraim drive as well as how to build fire sacks, SAM traps and artillery kill zones. Plus many other tricks. I did mention that human opponents are tricky, didn't I?
There used to be some fairly good tactical manuals for SP. Each version is a little different, so the older ones are not as useful.

Alright then, sounds ... challenging. Since I am new to the club I humbly accept the well - deserved criticism since I deem it a constructive one. Certainly I accept the proposal of becoming an apprentice; of course I noticed the limitations of the gameplay against the AI - therefore I was looking for a human opponent. Anyway being an aprentice I hope that I am not going to be spared anything that the tactical approach offers and if I am to loose I loose it big time if my poor performace deserves that - just like on real life battlefield. No remorse - otherwise I wouldn't enjoy. No better lesson that a severe beating I guess unless I can still survive.
Would You like to pick a default scenario and set it up then send or am I to make a selection and then leave it to Your further consideration? ...
Still thanks for the reply and will to play.

Experienced also means that you would expect someone to know what a "default scenario" is about.
Slow down Low_bidder a bit. Guy simply asked for someone to play stock scens and you jump on him with arty restrictions and longish lecture how stupid AI is and how smart you are. Arty restrictions have nothing to do with stock scens.
Pretty much a post of a bootie who writes down an answer without reading the question, dont you think ?
Just let the guy play his game the way he wants.

RE: Looking for an opponent for a PBEM game.
Thanks everybody. I must admit that being a total newbie and an absolute beginner to the forum I have recieved lot s of attention and support. Regarding low_bidder I need to say that I didn't feel offended ur unjustly assaulted in my naivety and nonetheless he cahnged his stance afterwards and provided very formative remarks on the SP and PBEM gameplay issues so everyone may chill out at last.
Thanks for the offrer and the reply. I'll gladly play MBT for a change since I am currently playing a couple of scenarios off WWII against Seahawk, Vesku and JR also undergoing a training session with low_bidder so I am affraid I might be getting hopelessly slow in response if I take on some more games at the very moment. I will see how the things are in a couple of days as tommorow I am back to work and then let You know immediately if I am up for one more challenge. Thank You very much , czerpak.
