RE: Trucks and Transports
In my early days I'd use them to transport guys right up to the front line and learned the hard way. If they don't get blown to smithereens loaded, then they get blown to smithereens unloaded and trying to get back to the rear, racking up tons of free points for the opponent. Now I unload early and let the infantry walk, moving them to the farthest rear wooded areas as possible and no stacking, just in case of lucky artillery fire.

If the map is large, I'll hold some close to the rear-most infantry and load them for quick reinforcing if the emergency arises or near reinforcement hexes.

I don't use them to spot or block roads, although I don't have a problem if my opponent does. Easy points are easy points. However, if the scenario includes exit hexes and it's critical to reach them for a victory, I'll go over the rules with my opponent early, so we're both on the same page.

RE: Trucks and Transports
I find trucks and unarmed/transport half tracks very useful. Especially in scenarios that have large maps and nice roads.
Picking up infantry and mortars to drive forward as the battle moves away from them is key.
Get them close and try to do so out of the line of sight or after the enemy has fired all their opt fire. :chin: Whip

RE: Trucks and Transports
When I am not using them to block roads I like to advance them as scouts while my empty half tracks act like a wolf pack in the opponents rear.....

(That should get some discussion, Ed.)

I love the way these threads are inducing so much interesting insights into the game, everyone's a winner!
I personally love blocking bridges with them, I believe there is even a scenario on the database to portray it, must try it sometime!

LOL!
Jack, you forgot to tell everyone of the truck's main use? :chin:

Before assaults, always use trucks to surround a unit and block it's retreat route? :whis:
And, the minor use; put multiple platoons of trucks in one hex to block the enemy line of sight! :pullhair:

? <=== My favorite scouting find! :cheeky:

And, most opponents comments are :dunno: how but, surely those trucks can get there!

cheers

RE: Trucks and Transports
You forgot the tactic of lining up groups of trucks in a line, along a road. When the enemy assaults like a pac-man, eventually the assault fails, then that's where the halftracks come in, in support!

RE: Trucks and Transports
Blocking exit hexes is the best use for them if your trying to keep an oppoment from exiting units this truck blocking ploy should be a perfectly acceptable use of them. I thought it was about winning so does it make a difference how you win as long as you win it a game of war ???

I've nevered tryed to block view with them, I could sneak my tanks up behind them let my opponents opp fire blow away my trucks then counter with my hidden tanks. I'll have to try that. See this is the kind of thread that gets the members together and share great ideas. Great thread Ed thanks my friend
