Features you'd like to see with SB

In a recent scenario I had to grap a HMG by a 5 men squad so 3 men had to drop their weapons. Other two men kept their guns. So while it is not perfect (you dont have total control on weapon numbers to be dropped) you still have plenty of chance to keep the needed weapons.

You can select individual types of weapons to drop.

Example: You have 10 men in a squad. They have 2xMAT 49, 1xBAR, 7xMAS-49. You want to pick up a M-60 Mortar (requiring 2 PP).

You can select the MAT-49's only. (Select the hex, DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK, click on the MAT 49 in the info area. It will be highlighted.) Now drop it. You can now pick up the M-60. You could also drop all the MAS49's and then pick the Mortar and the MAS49s (well 5) back up. You could drop the MAT49 and the BAR and then pick up the MAT49 (1), Mortar and the BAR.

Give it a try and let me know if it works.

I always have it set up with the 'confirm drop/unload' as well. Handy wee setting.

Thansk for the tip. I'll give it a spin. I might have been wrong all along and it was just the way I was dropping them.

This is a good thread Alan. I always enjoy see what pops out of the woodwork. And getting tips from some of the good players is invaluable.

I'd like to see the vehicles get a little rework (e.g. turret armor & facing, reverse direction, etc..). I realize that the games premise is squad tactics, however recent & modern warfare is all about combined arms.

Also, as presented in JT's East/Western Front series (IIRC), a post combat window showing final combat odds ~ or die roll. Perhaps an option box that is selectable during game setup that would enable - disable odds notification.

And lastly... I'm still a fanboy concerning unit free placement.

You can move a vehicle in reverse if you right click on the hex where you want to back up to, if that's what you mean by 'reverse direction'

There are few certainties with regards to the SB, but I'm fairly sure, based on conversations had in public and within the design team, that free placement will never be an option with the SB series. I believe it has to do with some type of copyright/intellectual property issues, not the designers lack of wanting to employ this.

Once again I could be remembering this wrong, but I think you are only changing the directional facing... your rear is still facing enemy units.

As far as your comments on free placement, I've heard the same word as you. That doesn't mean I can't be hopefull

I agree with this one. It helps understand what you are doing right/wrong. Of course in a FOW game it should be prohibited, but as a learning tool, invaluable.

And BigRed1 has it right. If you click in the hex to the immediate rear, your AFV will back up. (And I think at a higher MP cost.) You can't back up into the rear flanks though.

How about a stealth mode. This would allow specialist units that are on the ground to crawl under cover towards the enemy without being detected even if in LOS until they fired, say one hex at a time for full movement cost. Unless they fired or were detected by NV scope or other vision aid they would remain hidden. This would also have to be limited to certain terrain types, e.g. bush, buildings etc.

Ground mode. It is in there, and if you're advancing on terrain as brush , etc, you will only become visible when you are in LOS.

Naturally if you advance through buildings , and then need to move on open , your enemy will be able to see you, but this makes sense.

I thought that this would be a good idea to give to certain units, in cover (regardless of LOS), for 1 -3 man units. Something like that.

It would have been useful specifically in the Vietnam/Tour of Duty/DBP titles. Or the jungle in Pac War.

Yes, I think it would only work for small units, 1 to 3 specialist commandos, snipers or elite troops.

Jo, what I meant is that they would remain hidden even if moving into LOS as long as they used stealth mode and were in appropriate cover.
