Off topic: Danish documentary from Afghanistan

This is the official trailer for the movie Armadillo.
It’s a Danish made documentary about the Danish forces in the Forward Operating Base Armadillo in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
The movie will premiere in Cannes may 16 as the first of its kind from Denmark. I’m looking forward to see it, as it seems to show a rougher and perhaps more realistic view of the war than we usual read about in the papers here in Denmark.

Update: I was in the theater friday and watched this documentary.
This is a good movie - it is not filled with action - remember its a documentary - but those 100 minutes was gone in a moment.

That film tells all about how a guerrilla warfare is affecting the regular troops, and how war changes a person forever.
What gaves me most food for thought was to wach the eyes of those young boys when they leave home and returns home half a year later.

It is not a political film - it just shows the thing as they happens - I really supported when the Taliban was kicked out - but after seeing this film I wonder if we ever get rid of them - it just looks too much the footage from Vietnam I watched in the news as a kid long ago.

BTW: This documentary turned out to be the Grand Prix winner of the feature length category of the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. It is the first time that a documentary wins the grand prize in the Semaine de la Critique section.

It really does look a cracker doco...and it is excellent that it won in Cannes.

There are reams of historical information on how hard it is to occupy Afghanistan.
The British especially should have known what they were getting themselves in for, after all , this is their third time there in recent history eh.

It's always going to be hard to 'get rid of' someone from their own country eh.

The Afganis, especially the Pashtun do not take kindly to being occupied and told what to do. They are an incredibly tough and hardy people and their pride alone will always cause them to struggle for liberation when they are occupied.

It is good to see some gritty truth managing to make it out of that country and onto our screens...though sadly, as this is a documentary rather than a movie, it will not be widely watched, especially in the places that matter.

I have a feeling that this war will drag on for a long time yet.
A sad time, and indeed a modern Vietnam scenario.

Hi Jason. Here in Denmark at the opening weekend it was actually the most watched movie in the Danish theaters - coming in before "Prince of Persia" that opened the same week!
But thats of cause here in DK, but maybe it will come on TV someday on a channel near you :-)
