Nice starting point.

Leaders are rot...at the best, the very best, maybe a +1 modifier...or the negative cousin.

I would concede leaders...only upon the proposition that they have such prohibitively high VPs...that one might or not engage them.

This is a game based on historical simulation of military activity. Any military simulation without leaders...I prefer the term commanders....makes no sense to me.

with the greatest of respect. "historical simulation" gives no credence...ay no evidence that Lts or Cpts...dare generals increased the fire power over say corporals...shant I say sergeants?

Rommel comes to mind. As do Montgomery, Patton, Rokkosovskiy, Moorshead, Wolseley, Nelson, Prince Eugene, Marlborough, Gustavus Adolphus etc etc as examples of commanders either well known and respected, or who exposed themselves regularly to danger,or both. These were high level commanders who men followed. At lower levels, a multitude more, right down to local temporary Acting Lance Corporal (unpaid)
But, I think, many more bad ones. And this is just a game, and the virtual commanders are after all only a tool of the players.

I do think isolated commanders are too bloody hard to kill, and I think they should be able to reconnoitre.

Not at platoon level. Please...Lord Marlborough would take me out of the line just to light his fag. And he would be rated rather high. You see?

Other points well taken...too bad there is not a -5 commander...that would be a hoot. How would you use him?

Everything that I've read shows that non coms and Lieutenants, at platoon level, were the movers and shakers when the rubber hits the road. That is true across the history of fighting.

Marshal Ney would be my prime example of a leader who lead from all levels. David would be another.

Getting one platoon to move and fight gets a company to move and fight? It often starts with the one leader who stood up and led the way. :chin:

That -5 leader can show the way to the aid station? ;)

Well there are many undocumented leaders who loose it under fire (hide under a tree or something).
