SPWW2 challenge
Hi there,

I'd like to try Cross new low-ammo OOB's in a game. 33 turn meeting engagement on some nice custom map. Germany vs. Russia in June 1944. I can play any side. I set the game length quite high to really see the effects of the lower ammo, and to add a certain element of logistics - ammo refills will probably be needed.

Other "rules":
- basic security, simply to avoid crashes, nothing else.
- 4000 points, vis 20
- Use somewhat realistic force compositions (i.e. not 100 bazooka teams carried around by jeeps)
- Max 10% arty (on-board or off-board is up to you) - light squad level mortars not counted, but company assets are counted.
- No spotting planes and definitely no helicopters.
- Max 4 MG's per infantry company
- Max 1 sniper, 1 scout formation and 1 inf at formation per infantry company (including those coming with the company.. if the company comes with more than that, that's ok).

First one to post on the thread gets it.. going to convert my second installation of SPWW2 to a low-ammo version, so all slots free.. :) I got the CD-version of the game.

To add some additional spice, and since testing the new OOB's have sort of public interest - not sure how the AAR-section works here, but I'd be interested to make one as we go.. no requirement though.

/Fred

RE: SPWW2 challenge
I would play you Fred, but I’m a bit too busy right now.

I recommend that whoever plays as the Soviets, pays attention to the different ammo levels of the elite troops verses regular infantry.

The elite troops have a comparatively decent ammo supply, and include:

Guards
Paratroops
Marines
Mountain
Ski

The regular infantry are more likely to need additional ammo supply if you get them involved in a long fire-fight. They include:

Cossacks
Partisans
Motorcycle troops
Cavalry
SMG sections
Desant

Grenades
Grenade levels were lowered for all troops in the nations I converted.

But the Soviet elite troops have a better supply of grenades than the regular forces. However, I did give SMG sections additional grenades, as these are considered ‘close assault’ troops.

Soviet ‘third rate’ troops get the same ammo load-out as the regular infantry, but an even poorer supply of grenades. These troops are:

Conscripts
Penal
Militia

German troops
Whoever plays as the Germans should pay attention to the squad LMGs.

With the default OOB, the MG 42 is the obvious pick when available, but with this ‘real ammo’ OOB you must decide:

MG 42 (best killing power, but low ammo load-out)
MG 34 (better than average LMG, with decent ammo load-out)

In real life, the MG 42 was far rarer than the MG 34. The MG 34 should be the standard German LMG, and I think this OOB encourages that. I would purchase sections with mostly MG 34s, especially if you expect a long engagement.

However, the MG 42 is still deadly, and I would want them in my battalion, especially if you can arrange ammo re-supply for them.

---

I would be particularly interested to read any AARs; and welcome any feedback or suggestions on the ammo situation.

This is really a test period. If players like the OOB, and see a use for them even on an occasional basis, I hope to adjust them – based on feedback – and re-publish them with additional OOBs after the next game update, which is probably December.

Regards,

Hey there,

That could be interesting. Perhaps we could allow some limited armour support (for example a platoon of infantry supprt tanks/Stugs/etc.) for every two infantry companies, just to add some mobility/support too.

What about mechanized infantry?

Anyway I'd be glad to play.. send me an e-mail at [email protected].. we could discuss more then.
