Graphics mod(s) for HPS 1776
I am thinking about picking up HPS's 1776, but first want to know if there has been any mods released to replace the unit graphics and maps. IMHO the stock HPS map and unit graphics are distractingly awful in this game...even more so that the SB games (thats hard to do). I saw some stuff on the CCC site but there is little description or commentary. Hoping that some of you will know the definitive mod package(s) to get :)
Kind Regards,
Harry

I don't know that there are any modded map graphics - although I do know that in my case I hadn't gotten around to it. I did throw something together when I was playing around with the Civil War and Napoleonic series earlier this year- however most of it is not original (but cut and pasted from other series mods). I'm not even sure I have a screen shot of it.

At any rate, I think I'll do one for EAW (or at least 1776/1812/FIW) MAW might needs its own style, at some point.

FWIW I always wanted to know what 3d unit files Al had on his blog - and then the other day I came across a hard copy of the file that I had printed out, meaning that I must have it possibly -I'll have to check that out -if so it would be from CCC or the Gamesquad download area (I have a back up of all of the GS material).

Anyways - now that I have written all of this - I know that I did not actually answer the question.

I know for sure there are a couple of Unit graphics mods running around. The will change the units uniforms, etc. not the units shown on the game map. I haven't hunted for them in a long time. My 1st two suggestions, would be to search Wargamer and GameSquad for the 3rd party stuff.

I know you'll like them, if they are still available.

BTW, don't forget to check out the HPS site as I know they have two extra expansion packs that became available after the game was released.

Good Luck!

You could check out this graphics package I put together several years ago:

http://forums.gamesquad.com/downloads.ph...ile&id=368

It will work with 1776, 1812 and FIW. I have some other graphics files I am using, and will try to update the package when I get some time Big Grin

Hope you like it :smoke:

RE: Graphics mod(s) for HPS 1776
EAW (FIW, 1776, 1812) mods in progress.

These are going to be designed to work with the EAW titles:

-French and Indian War

-1776

-The War of 1812

Starting assembling some files from other mods. The 3d ones, are mostly from the Civil War series mods -and to the best of my knowledge they seem to be based largely upon Talonsoft's Campaign series' graphics.

The Ticonderoga 2 map from the last expansion pack put out by HPS last year.

Jan from Mapmods gave me permission to use his graphics as I need, and I have used some road mods that I don't know whose that they are. (The 2d zoom out is not really done -it needs a little work.). I also want to play around with the swamp graphics, as well as the water hexes. Rivers and streams are from some mod I think that I originally found for PzC.

I think there is room to play around with the counters in a similar style to what Jan has recently been doing in his PzC work, and I want to play around with the flags some.

All that being said, at some future point I will work on some mods for EAW from scratch, however, at the moment, these are largely the graphics packages that I am using when I am playing.

RE: Graphics mod(s) for HPS 1776
I'm looking forward to the release of these mods. They look very promising! It has been a long time since anyone created any new art mods for this series.

At this time, do you feel that you will do anything with MAW or are you just planning on staying with 1776, FIW, and 1812 since the land art can be easily used in all three titles, and would not fit in and be proper for MAW?

One thing that I want to do with these, which I noticed recently, is that I want to modify the swamps/marshes that I have so that you can see the elevation of the hex. But other than that, things are pretty ready to go.

As for MAW, yes, on 2 counts. I suspect that maybe Jan's hex scheme that he uses for the desert would work well; however with all of these I want to do some mods from the ground up too (along the lines of what I did for The First Blitzkrieg and War on the Southern Front). Jan was kind enough to allow me to use his graphics -but I also know that I will enjoy the challenge as well. Although I haven't done anything with MAW aside from brainstorming it.

I haven't toyed around with the counters- but his last redo of his mod gave me an idea that would look similar (but at the moment these will probably all be done in increments).

RE: Graphics mod(s) for HPS 1776
I had to sort of step back ... as I got into it to a little more than the level that I am ready to get at right now.

The package I have now can be found at:

http://hist-sdc.com/downloads/phcdownloa...hp?id=1151

2D zoom out requires more work, and the best thing to do is to make a backup of the Map folder before apply this to your game folder.

Note, this doesn't work for MAW -well, actually it probably does work for it, but would look a little odd.

RE: Graphics mod(s) for HPS 1776
Hey Gabeeg, I just picked up 1776 and French and Indian War and was planning on doing a new 3D mod of the units (and probably some 2D graphic updates) for 1776 sometime next month (currently I'm busy on another project) . If so, ill post about it on my blog and send you a copy^^
