To All of our members who have served under arms
Hello,

Even though this is a little late, this is the time of year when we honor those who have served in the armed forces of their country.

While I personally did not serve in the armed forces, many in my ancestry have, as well as friends... some did not survive the experience, or were wounded in action.

To those of you who have served your country, or are currently serving, and in memory of those who fell in battle, or suffered injury.. I simply wish to thank you all for your willingness to pay an incredible price to protect the freedoms in which you believe, and I cherish.. which freedom for many of us was bought and paid for at a cost which cannot be measured..

'thank you' is simply not enough to express my gratitude.

Respectfully,
Greybeard

My hat's off to any of you guys who have served your country in the armed forces.

I recently did a little research into my family tree, and found family had served in the Boer War, Great War, WWII, and the Falklands War.

I found the London Gazette particularly useful. One relative was a RAF officer in WWI and again in WWII.

For my wife's Canadian family, the 'Library and Archives Canada' were an excellent resource. We easily found her four great uncles (brothers) enlistment papers for WWI.

I thought the oath the Canadians took and signed was interesting:

Nice find Cross, I remember taking my oath when I enlisted into the NZ Army way back in 1996, joined as an officer and did 12 months at OCS in Waiouru. 3 months core training and then onto Battalion, I left after that to get married, she didn't want to have an army life. lol.
