New H2H Scenario for Modern War: Trapped in the Valley
In the last days I bought and played "Modern War" and I have many ideas for selfmade scenarios. Although I´m very new to "TheBlitz" and the Squad Battle Games I tried to construct a little scenario called "Trapped in the Valley".
An US convoy is trapped by enemy units in a valley in Afghanistan. Seriously outnumbered they have to defend and wait for support against a very well equipped enemy unit of Taliban rebels.
I designed the game for 12 turns of intensive firefight and tried to optimize the scenario for PBEM. I also included an AI, so there is a script for the attacking Taliban Units and waypoints for the later incoming US support units.
I hope a few of the players here in the forum are interested in testing my scenario. It´s uploaded to the H2H section and I´m open for playtesting and feedback.
For all communications that will follow I´ll say sorry for my English, cause it´s not my mother-language.
Have fun with my game! Best regards! Kalorn/Simon from Germany

RE: New H2H Scenario for Modern War: Trapped in the Valley
This scenario is available for DL here https://www.theblitz.club/h2h_production...der&lid=10 we have never had anyone on the SB ladder use the H2H area that is a regular feature on other ladders, the way the system works is that you find an opponent, you both DL the file and register your test (on the same page), play the scenario through and back at the same page rate the scenario and submit your comments, i will then award you testing points.

The designer then takes your comments on board and makes changes to the scenario to improve the balance for PBEM/H2H play, this continues until the scenario has a high enough rating to be considered "Blitz Approved", in this way the whole SB community benefits from having a scenario that they know is a great H2H battle.

The only downside for some players is that as the game is a test it cannot be registered on the ladder (although you still get the points), think of it that you are doing the community a favour rather than adding to your ladder stats. ;)

So anyone interested? Any questions just ask, there is a FAQ at the H2H are as well.

RE: New H2H Scenario for Modern War: Trapped in the Valley
Hi Foul,
and thanks for the information!
Is there any reason why noone of the Squad Battle Ladder used the H2H function of TheBlitz for selfmade scenarios yet?
I know there are many custom scenarios for Squad Battles available at TaskForceEcho4. Is this a better place to offering and testing a new scenario?
I hope I didn´t broke some "unwritten rules".
I think that the big community at TheBlitz is a very good place do discuss the pro and contra of new scenarios.

Kalorn,
I don't use the TFE4 site and so i don't know if that might be a better site for testing your scenario, however other ladders use the H2H testing area at the Blitz with great success, so i will leave it up to you to decide which site you would like to use? ;)

To continue at the Blitz you need two players to test your scenario. :)

I don't think anyone from the SB ladder uses the H2H because there aren't a whole lot of scenario designers on the ladder. I think most of them graduated to working for John Tiller. ;) I tried it a while ago (18 months?) but I had more luck asking people I knew to play them. I would like to try your scenario Kalorn, I've downloaded it, and I'll play whoever else is up for it.

Kalorn,

It's great to see folks getting interested in scenario design, and more importantly, wanting to share their work with the community.

Abram's right, there aren't many designers here that aren't affiliated with the official scenario design work, although they do put out content that isn't 'official' as well. Typically these folks dip into the playtesters on the team to do some of the initial testing.

That said, there are a lot of ways you can go. You can put your content on the H2H for folks to test or you can ask around informally for guys to test things out. Threre are a bunch of us who are on the playtesting team who would be more than willing to lend a hand.

Task Force Echo Four is, primarily, a repository for finished products. Scenarios, artwork, graphics, etc. Once your scenarios are finished to your liking, I would be more than happy to put them up on the site for the community to have. Just let me know.

MW has a lot of good maps available and a fairly steady stream of inspiration in the news and from a variety of sources with regards to tactical situations. I would expect that MW could be a very productive ground for scenario design.

I plan to make a series of scenarios based on Mark Walker's Lock n Load: A Day of Heroes (Mogadishu) scenarios. May need your help since this will be my very first scenario project.

Trapped in the Valley
Player vs AI.
Phew! This was tough as the americans. By turn 4 or 5 i had maybe 1 full squad left with most of my forces decimated by the machinegun fire from the surrounding ridgelines, including my disabled mechs and then the mortar/artillery strikes didn't help much either. Then the fanatics charged in with their sachel charges...
I gave up at that point. I had lost a good 40 plus points and hadn't really gained a foothold on either of the 2 ridgelines to start mitigating all that fire.
Tough scenario.^^

I'm kinda new to squad battles but it does seem a bit balanced against the american forces.

----

I did a bunch of squad leader scenario conversions to combat mission years ago and experimented with close combat modding. Id like to get into making a couple of maps here and have a few good ideas to get me started.

Hope to be posting more here soon.

RE: New H2H Scenario for Modern War: Trapped in the Valley
If you guys are going to want to start making your own custom maps, I'll just let you know that there is no full map editor for the SB series. The editor in the game will allow you to do certain things, but is fairly limited in terms of crafting brand new original maps from scratch.

That said, there are some pretty huge maps in MW, ones that can easily be adapted to a variety of situations. Play around with the editor, see what works, and post questions you might have here. I'm sure some of the more experienced designers would be more than willing to lend their advice.
