b_Exclamation Mark  Last Man Standing Tourney - ROUND ONE
Welcome to this tournament, thanks for participating, and GOOD LUCK!

This is Round One, which will consist of 10 players participating in five separate battles. As I hope you are aware, the goal here is to completely destroy your opponent. Real Estate means nothing - you must completely disable the other guy. If you have not loaded the basic tourney rules, you can find it on the original thread at the Bltiz.com announcing the tournament. Those rules have not been changed or adjusted - this is no holds barred.

The only adjustment is the single elimination, which had to be adjusted due to the number of players participating and to keep an even number of players for the next rounds. It still remains single elimination, but at the conclusion of Rounds 1 and 2 the player with the highest score of those that lost their individual match, will continue to the next round. That player will be called the "Wild Card."

So the entire tournament will look like this:

Round One - 10 players, 5 winners, one Wild Card
Round Two - 6 players, 3 winners, one Wild Card
Round Three - 4 players, 2 winners
Round Four - 2 players...Winner Takes All!

Below are the set-up, preferences, map, and purchase instructions for Round One. Also, is the Round One line-up. It does not matter which of you is player one or player two, but the set-up will be done by player one. Please decide among yourselves who player one will be, and proceed from there. A regular turn rate is expected. Round One is 40 Turns - so hopefully, by a month or so it should be completed by most (it may not last all 40 in many cases).

Please notifiy me when you have begun your battle. I'd appreciate regular updates, but if you don't send them - I'll probably periodically ask.

ROUND ONE ROSTER -

dark_wing vs. Panama
2ndLt._Fjun vs. JadPanther
Vesku vs. Keepitloki
OldRocky vs. Roman
Shortreengage vs. brm_3k

ROUND ONE INSTRUCTIONS -

FOLLOWING IS DONE BY PLAYER ONE:

1) From Main Menu click "Battle" Button
2) On Battle Page select the following:
a) Meeting Engagement
b) Player 1 RED flag
c) Player 2 BLUE flag
d) Visibility to 50
c) Select "Human" for both players
d) Select "Custom" for map
e) Battle date should be "June 1944" - which is usually the default
3) On Battle Page click "Preferences"
a) On Preferences Page click Traning to "OFF"
b) set "Troop Quality" to 70 - which is usualy the default
c) set "Battle Points" to 10,000 for both player one and player two
d) exit back to Battle Page
4) "Continue" from Battle Page to Custom Map Selection Screen
a) scroll to and select map # 129
5) From the Purchase Menu click "View Map"
a) click "change game length" button (stop watch)
b) set game length to 40 turns
c) click "Edit Victory Objectives" button (two flags)
d) relocate VH flag to any "gray" hex on map border, click next or hit "n" to move next flag until all VH flags are on border
c) click red arrow to get back to purchase menu

FOLLOWING IS DONE BY BOTH PLAYER ONE AND PLAYER TWO

6) From Purchase Menu click "Allies" button
a) click "Set Captured" button - this will make all unit flags RED or BLUE
b) click the flag of the country you wish to purchase weapons from
c) Return to Purchase Menu and purchase units as normal
d) Must repeat a - c for each different country you wish to purchase from
7) Set "Basic Security" (PLAYER ONE) and password
8) Deploy
9) Kill each other...

The big thing here is to be sure to CLICK SET CAPTURED BUTTON so that the flags of the unit will represent your RED or BLUE. If both players failed to do this and select identical units, it will be difficult to tell who is who...plus it will just look bad.

Please contact your opponents directly, determine who is player one, and begin your battle.

It is certainly not a requirement, but if one/both players feel like doing a AAR and taking some screenshots - please have at it. I'll post some highlights, mostly for the comedy of it, after each round.

Don't hesitate to hit me up with questions at any point. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL -

NICK S.

Indeed - I have had a couple questions about this map choice.

It was carefully chosen for several reasons:

1) relatively small map - which will minimize impact of small units to hide unmolested through game and will maximize carnage.

2) It has somewhat standard terrain features, nothing fancy. Woods, fields, primary roads and secondary roads. No hedgerows, water obsticals, huge hills, etc.

3) It seemed equally suited for both sides - neither side has any great terrain advantage over the other.

10K points on a map that small is cluttered, but there should still be plenty of room to manuever.

Cheers,

RE: Last Man Standing Tourney - ROUND ONE
If all objectives are placed on the grey there will be no "all units killed" results as the game stops way before that. To make sure that the battle continues one objective should be placed for both sides which are not to be touched. That is not needed if the broken morale is enough for victory. Just an idea, not sure what you are after, a carnage to the last man or a victory by rout.

I agree with Vesku.
Make one flag for each nation worth 5 pts and place it on the map.
No one should capture those flags.
This will stop the game ending prematurely.

Ugh...didn't know that.

OK - amendment to Round One Rules...

Player One should place one Red Flag in top left corner, still on map, and one Blue Flag in the lower left corner, still on the map.

I'll submit an additional email to all the players...I apologize if some of you have already set-up/started a game.

Thanks Vesku and Walrus for pointing that one out!

Carnage...definately carnage...

It appears that Roman is out of action for at least a week or so. Rather than slowing down the Tourney, I've decided to replace him with Greybeard - who graciously decided to come back into the tournament.

Greybeard v. OldRocky for Round One.

Roman - I hope you understand. You'll have first dibs on the next one.

RE: Last Man Standing Tourney - ROUND ONE
Having a bit of a problem. When I set points to 10k and leave preferences it resets to 15k. In addition, all v flags are neutral. No matter how many times or ways I try it always does this. Mailed my opponent. Maybe he can get it to cooperate. :conf:

I set-up a game with the parameters given and didn't have any of these issues.

Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone have a suggestion or fix for Panama?

Also, please let me know - either here or via email - when you have begun turn 1. I don't need passwords or game files at this point, but if you want to occassionally send screen shots, or include me on the "banter" between turns, please feel free.

Thanks!

WELL.. IF THE GAME REFUSES TO COOPERATE, THEN MAYBE PANAMA AND HIS OPPONENT CAN SIMPLY LIMIT THEIR PURCHASES TO 10k EACH. AS FOR THE FLAGS REMAINING NEUTRAL.. NOT AN ISSUE.. THEY PROBABLY OUGHT TO BE NEUTRAL TO START WITH ANYWAY. IF THE FLAG(S) IS(ARE) NEVER CLAIMED, THEN THE AI WILL SIT AND TWIDDLE IT'S THUMBS UNTIL SOMEBODY OWNS IT..

OR SINCE THIS IS A 'KILL EVERYTHING' BASH.. JUST RUN WITH THE 15k POINTS AND HAVE AT IT..

COMMENT TO GUNSLINGER.. HAD A THOUGHT WHILE SETTING UP THE GAME WITH ROCKY.. NEXT ROUND HOW ABOUT IF THE 'AMMO LIMITS' CONTROL IS LEFT OFF.. GAME IS TO KILL THINGS.. CAN'T DO IT IF YOU RUN OUT OF AMMO.. :) THERE ARE QUITE A NUMBER OF UNITS OUT THERE THAT PEOPLE MIGHT WISH TO USE.. BUT HAVE EXTREMELY LOW AMMO SUPPLY.. AMMO UNITS HELP, BUT DON'T CONTRIBUTE MUCH TO A FACE TO FACE FIRE FIGHT.. ALTHOUGH, IF YOU DRIVE YOUR AMMO UNIT RIGHT UP NEXT TO AN OPPONENT'S GUY, THEN THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THAT WHEN THE AMMO GOES IT WILL TAKE SOMETHING WITH IT :)

I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SOME SNEAKY PLAYER WERE TO LOAD UP SEVERAL PARA-TRANSPORTS WITH AMMO BOXES, AND DROP THEM ON TOP OF A KNOWN 'ENEMY' TROOP CONCENTRATION.. THE OPFIRE AGAINST LANDING PARA'S MAY WELL DO MORE DAMAGE TO THE SHOOTERS THAN THE DROPPER.. :) MIGHT BE FUN TO TRY IT AGAINST THE AI JUST TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS

GREYBEARD
