3rd Party Art Mods, Sound Mods, Helpful Info
Do any of you JTCS owners know of any good 3rd party art mods, sound mods or anything else related to the series that I might find interesting, useful, or helpful?
Thanks

RE: 3rd Party Art Mods, Sound Mods, Helpful Info
I am a JTCS newbie trying to locate 3rd party art mods, sound mods, etc. that may be available to use.
With being a owner of several HPS games that covers several different series, I have had access to a lot of 3rd party files that I was able to add to my collection of games. We have been fortunate to have some very talented and non-selfish individuals who were more than willing to invest alot of time and effort in to creating and improving the graphics, sounds, etc. which would help increase the enjoyment of playing our games. Best of all, they were more than willing to share their work with the “artistically challenged people“, like myself. Some of these people have created their own web pages which allow for easy access to these files. Others have created web sites just to host all of these type of game files. We have also had several individuals who created 3rd party spreadsheets and documents that supply extra information about listings and descriptions of scenarios included with each game, weapons data, tactics, tips, tricks, and suggestions about different parts of a game/series, etc. to help game owners become better players and also help decrease the learning curve of a series. We also have had 3rd party scenarios designed purposely for H2H PBEM.
While trying to retrieve the game patch, over on Matrix, I scanned through a ton of JTCS posts trying to locate information and links to locate 3rd party material however, if it was there, I didn’t have much luck in finding anything.
I was hoping to locate some of the same type of material that can be used for the JTCS series.
Thanks

Chad, I found this right here at the Blitz. Not sure what's there, though. Some of it might be pretty old (pre-Matrix): https://www.theblitz.club/downloads/

Keep in mind that a lot of the available MODS for the Campaign Series can be found in the USER MODS folder of your installation, if you have updated to the 1.04 UPDATE.
Hope that helps

Hiding Mods in some of the game folders; I would have never thought to look around in there. Thanks for the tip!

Is it possible to change the background music somehow?
I don't usually play with music on, but having found a utility (I think) that helps in changing youtube videos into music files, it would be fun to try to change that...
Germans, with Panzerlied, that already works very nicely. Having spent a bit at Youtube, Erika would be even nicer...
Russians would need their " Oh, Field", or better known perhaps as the Cossacks song, to trumpet that impending doom of foreign agressors about to be run over by their Shock Tank divisions... (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfBeeVKhPHE)
US & Brits, perhaps something to lift up the spirits as well. I am sure there would be something to find.
My favorite user mods: the Panzer Leader look&feel for WF, and PanzerBlitz for EF. I could not even imagine playing the series without them :smoke:
That, and the alternative winter ground effects

Gothca, the OGG format files include all sounds, right?
Having found the codec, it seems that:
EDIT: spent a bit more time listening to what is available as-is
WF
abackN (N=0-2) ambient background music
=> Having listened to EF abackN files, I believe these are the Allied marching songs?
backN (N=0-7) various battle effects for background
nbackN (N=0-5) neutral (?) background tunes and music
pback1 German anthem
pback2 Italian anthem
Pback8 French anthem
Pback9 British anthem
Pback10 US anthem
xbackN (N=0-4) are German marches
0 Tschingta Tschingta Bummtara
1 Ambient tune
2 Erika
3 Die Braune Kompanie
4 ?
Victory1_N & MVictory1_N "German" congratulations
Victory8_N & MVictory8_N "French" congratulations
Victory9_N & MVictory9_N "British" congratulations
Victory10_N & MVictory10_N "US" congratulations
EF
pback0 Soviet Union / Russian anthem
pback1 German anthem
nbackN (N=0-16) ambient background tunes
xbackN (N=0-5) are German marches
Question:
So how do I get to have US background playing Burning bridges from Kellys heroes?
Is there a random decision if plenty of versions available, as in German marches?

The Sounds.dat file governs the amount of sounds, or variety played within a selection, would have to look into it to isolate the country specific sounds, been awhile since I messed with it!! The top line deals with the explosion, weapons, etc sounds... Theoretically you can add more variety under a selection, by raising the number in a column to allow more diversity.

That would be appreaciated! I had a look at the file, and it really is not self documenting is it!
I have come up with the tentative soundtrack for the Allied WF player: Burning bridges from Kelly's heroes, the mandatory It's A Long Way To Tipperary, and of course, the favourite of the time for US cavarly units: Flight of the Valkyrie by Wagner ;)
PS It would be enough to undestand the basic system behind the rows of numbers in the DAT file, or maybe to only find out which files are for Allied music, which files for Axis music.
I could always just provide a set of files anyone can replace the originals with. Having made back up copies of them first, of course.
