Artillery Fire on a Officer Question
Is it possible for artillery fire to hit an enemy officer who is alone in a hex without any other enemy units, or are you just wasting ammo by trying?

Thanks

Yes you can hit him but the probability is low. However take heed from His Grace, Field Marshall Wellington; when approached by Captain of Artillery Mercer who reported "Sir, we have the Emperor Napoleon in our sights! Shall we fire upon him?" And Wellington replied "Certainly not! In war tis not the business of opposing commanders to be firing upon one another!" :conf:

I think it may be a 1 in 24 chance of hitting him as I recall. It's a waste of ammo. With FoW on it means you don't know who you are shooting at anyway.

It might also be noted that the Emperor Napoleon never placed himself in such restrictions, often aiming the cannons himself!

If you've plenty of ammo and lack a better target, why not? I've hit officers more than once sitting on a ridge spying on my deployment.

If you see a lone officer on a ridge, he is performing the spotter with a radio mission. If you have the ammo, Fire Away! (Wish I could drone attack the b....s)

It is a little known fact that officers in all Napoleonic armies were equipt with radios, cell phones and advanced satellite communications so that they could spot enemy units at a distance and immediately communicate the enemy's whereabouts to army command. So yes, when you spot an officer on a ridge spotting, please fire when ready Gridley and hit the sonnovabitch with everything you've got. :smoke:
