Newbie seeking game (Closed)
Hi folks,

Like so many others I have been collecting the PzC games and never gotten further than muddling around with the AI.
So, now's the time.....

Thus I'm looking for an opponent (or 2-3 opponents) for either:
Smolensk '41
Stalingrad '42
Kharkov '43
Will consider Market-Garden and Bulge as well, but much prefer East Front.

Being a noob, small/medium scenarios will be preferred, and I'd love if I could hook up with someone not adverse to some after-action feedback.....
That is, someone telling me exactly why my army is now routed.
Or if you're a noob yourself, here's your chance to learn from less-than-stellar play.
Finally, given that this is my first foray into H2H, you may have to put up with a technical boo-boo or two..... :whis:

I'm an old campaigner, having started wargaming in the halcyon days of Avalon Hill, and am currently running 3 campaign-games in Grigsbys War in the East.
So I should be able to offer at least token resistance despite being unfamiliar with H2H PzC.
Turn-rate should be about 3-4 turns/week, assuming real-life stays out of the way.

EDIT: Just to avoid any further PBEM-file problems, all games are patched to newest versions, and with newest VM mods installed. Apologies for the inconvenience this has resulted in.

Insane or not, welcome to the TOC ladder, i hope you have a lot of fun here. Big Grin

You are starting the correct way by only playing small/medium scenarios just to get into the flow of PBEM play, you will find a human opponent a much harder challenge than the AI, but the games will be much more fun because of that same challenge.

Be sure to avoid using any optional rules you don't understand, i always suggest that new players stick to the OR set as default by the title designer, there is also a useful OR thread here https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...?tid=47923 and if you are new to PBEM there is a useful article here https://www.theblitz.club/articles/Artic...show&id=95, also make sure your games have the latest updates from HPS http://www.hpssims.com/Pages/Updates/up_...es_PZC.asp

Last thing, were you aware that we have a Grigsbys War in the East ladder here at the club, so if you can get your opponent to sign up also you can report your games there as well as your PzC games here.

Have fun.........

RE: Newbie seeking game
Thank ye kindly, both of you. :o)
And thanks to the opponents that have responded.

Yep, I've learned that moving from AI to H2H in WitE.....
First game saw my opponent rip my arms off, and then proceed to bludgeon me to death with the bloody stumps.....
Figuratively speaking, that is. Big Grin

Uummm..... Seeing that I'm losing 2 out of the three, I rather think not.
It's one thing to lose Moscow and Leningrad..... Doing it on National TV is not really on my things-to-do-before-I-die list.

Finally, if anyone is still interested in a game, I'm still looking.
Got enough games to occupy me for the next week or two, but after that it's open season on the mentally ill (that would be me).

Cheers,
Lars/CheerfullyInsane

This club is not about win loss records. Yeah, it is nice to win. If you look at the club rules on scoring, even losing garners positive ladder points. This club is more about community and the number of games played.

Hello Lars,

I see no one has taken you up on your offer...if you are still looking, I am available...I am a fan of Kharkov '43, but have them all if you want to play something else.

You pick scenario & side...we can use default rules to keep it simple.

Cheers...Jon

Oh, I did find opponents, they've just used my E-mail directly instead of going through here.
But I'd still like to take you up on the offer if you don't mind Stalingrad.
Already playing a couple of games in that one, and would prefer to keep to the same Parameter file, and save-folder to avoid unnecessary confusion :)

Off the top of my oddly-shaped head I was thinking either:
0829_01b Hoth's Gamble (HTH) or
0724_01a Breakout of Group Zhuravlev (HTH)

I know sod-all about either of them, so if you have a preference, or a third alternative, I'm all ears.
Basically, I'm a great believer in playing just to play, and if that means occasionally taking a nose-dive into the deep end of the pool, that's fine by me. Big Grin

Fair enough.
It has just been my experience that ladders in general tends to breed an awful lot of problems when people start to get (over-)competitive.
Not a quip against this particular ladder, just my experience from other boards/groups.
So for the time being I'll just get my proverbial feet moistened. :)
