RE: Bite the Bullet Tournament Medal Poll
There's other German "symbology" that can be used instead of a swastika, a German weapon or tank for instance or a helmet, even an iron cross, small enough to not see the swastika, but large enough to know what it is.

Or, it could just be a bullet with a bite taken out of it.

Thanks Dave, can you delete the entire thread?

No need for the thread to go. It actually brings up some interesting areas for discussion.

Totally agree - decided to go with the other one anyway

Well, I'm not the biggest fan of the 'Red Star' ... maby because I'm Polish? Iron Cross or other medal would look nicer.

cheers

There is no rush, the tournament hasn't even started up yet so I have lots of time to play with it - I will see if I can come up an option that sits easier for all.

I hate Nazi swastika with passion. I hate Bolshevik Sickle and Hammer with passion. I hate political correctness with passion.

Now, where does that leave me? Helmet Smile

I would vote option 3 as it is asthetically (sp?) most pleasing.

Ash, not getting on you personally my friend.

Historical or not these things carry a lot of meaning to a lot of people; I do not see the need to run the risk of giving offense or mis-characterizing the club or its membership. Far from being censorship, in at least on jurisdiction in which we play, this is the law. If you want to wear a swastika on your jacket, or on a model for historical accuracy, be my guest; but this game we play is just that, a game, and how we display things here speaks for all of us as a group, not just one or two people. Pretend awards and such should be acceptable to all participants and if we cannot find that measure of civilization or common courtesy I think it speaks very poorly on the club.

But again, like I said, this is just my opinion.

I particularly like the idea of the bullet with bite taken out of it!

No problem Larry - I completely understand.

What about this one:

The Swastika and the Hammer and Sickle/Red Star are two sides of the same evil Socialist coin.
They are part of history. Keeping our eyes open and remembering history is our only hope to not repeat it?

There is a function that even our German members can use? If they are awarded an offensive "medal" (that would reside on a server in the US or a country in Europe that does not have a law that bans it's display) they can delete it from their member page on their own. Sweep No one has to have any medals displayed that they do not want (and they are in charge of that function).

Cheers6
