Pausing the replay in progress issue
Is there a way to pause the replay of an opponent's turn that has been going on for a while already? I am playing the complete OrBat version of the 'Market-Garden '44" campaign scenario and each time I watch the replay it's like watching yet another episode of a TV series - it is taking now up to 50 minutes to get through. Even in my "Kanev '43; Race to the River" game I had an instance in which I made my lady friend waiting at the door for a moment as I was finishing watching the replay. Confusing, annoying and troublesome to say the least. There's no problem with that in TOAW III though - so am I missing anything?

Please advise.

RE: Pausing the replay in progress issue
I hit the F8 key ( hyper speed ) when the replay begins, when the replay stops I then save the game and exit.
I do this to save any problems as sometimes the game would remain in fast turn mode dispite using the F5 key to slow down the game.
I then restart the game to execute my move ( excuse the pun ).

Hope this solves your problem.

Just to point out even the mega campaign replays take only a few minutes when the F8 key is selected, maybe the F7 key would be a better starting point.

RE: Pausing the replay in progress issue
I'm not quite sure if we have gotten each other right; yours sounds as an idea which I'll give a go just to see what transpires , but that sure does not sound to me as a solution to the issue I am having with the replay.

I meant how do i possibly pause the ongoing replay for a moment or two if I have to and want to carry on with watching it afterwards without the necessity to start it all over again from the very beginning.Of course I know how to kill that in progress, but then to my best knowledge if You still wnat to watch it in detal, that requires restarting the whole process from the very onset.

Of, course I also know that one doesn't have to watch the replay and skip it,saving time perhaps, but I collect my intel carefully and put the pieces together perpetually to figure out what and where the enemy is up to so that option is not to be accepted.

Thanks for the will to advise anyway. Perhaps we'll fight each other one day,eh?

You can´t pause the replay, only slow it by using F5.

OK, another point under AI settings be sure to tick " Fast A/I Processing " and as JDR Dragoon pointed out

F5 key for slower AI
F6 normal
F7 faster
F8 rocket speed with no sound

Maybe F7 would best suit your style of play with just enough time to jot down battle notes.

I don't have any problems with F8 as long as my frontline remains intact.

RE: Pausing the replay in progress issue
Best thing I've found for such situations is to mentally note where I had to stop the replay and start over with the F8 or F7 active, then hit F6 when I get to the point I had to stop. Not a perfect solution, but workable. In large scenarios I usually go back and forth from F7, to zip through long periods of no visible activity, to F6 when there's something to see.

Was going to crack a joke about this, you know going back and forth and zipping thro long periods of no visible signs of inactivity then slowing down when there's something to see.
But we are all different !!!.

At least these games give you a choice to pick the replay to suit your tastes.

I have never understood why JT didn't include a Pause command in the basic game engine...

Go ahead and post it. If I don't like the setup I'll F7 past the punchline. Big Grin
