c_Question Mark  Moscow '42 OOB
Hello chaps,

Congrats to the project team on a fine piece of work in Moscow '42.

I'm just doing some personal updates to the unit .bmp pictures for M42 to suit my taste - as I suspect that Volcano Man may well be busy on other topics for a while.

In doing this I have come across a very, very, very minor issue - that has no impact whatsoever on the gameplay - just the esthetics if you change/update the unit pictures.

In the German units folder there are two units for Gen Heinrici -
1) - Gen Inf Heinrici
2) - Gen Lt Heinrici

However both the "Summer" and "Counterattack" OOB's have him listed as "Gen Inf Heinrici"

At some point during an update it would help to change the "Counterattack" OOB so he is renamed Gen Lt Heinrici, and therfore he can have a different unit picture (to represent him as XXXXIII AoK commander (counterattack scenarios)) from the unit picture of him as 4th Armee commander for the summer Kreml period scenarios.

Now a reality check - as it stands it makes no difference at all if you are using the game supplied unit pictures - but for preferance I like to use a unit picture representing the specific flag of the Korps or Armee - then it does make a difference.

There is a similar problem with Von Bock and Von Kluge in the summer scenarios too, but as there are no duplicate counters included presumably thats as its intended to be, so maybe we should leave that for the moment.
(I know its a "what if?", but why is Heeresgruppe Von Weichs commanded by Von Bock?)

I have also attached a replacement 2DSymbolsLg .bmp that takes care of the issue where Soviet Tank Corps have either just a unit size of "x", or nothing, on the unit tile on the board - use this and they will show as "xxx" on the unit tile - again, pure esthetics with zero impact on game play. Save or rename your original 2DSybolsLg and drop this in the "Map" folder and see what you think.

None of the above should detract from the obvious huge effort that has gone into this title, so please dont feel I'm intending to be critical.

Now all we need for Christmas is the next episode in the FWW series to make it a dream year for Tiller titles Thumbs Up

Cheers for now

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for you note. Let me answer each of your points.

You are completely right regarding Heinrici. I had intended to have it work as you suggested as evidenced by the art work but somehow the updating of the OOB didn't reflect it. Will aim to fix this in the first patch.

EDIT : I have attached a new Counterattack OB that corrects the appropriate designation for Heinrici.

Von Bock commanding Von Weichs Heeresgruppe was a deliberate 'fiction' done by me. Von Weichs had command of both 2nd Armee and the Heeresgruppe. As the game requires different command ranges between Army Group and Army, I choose to reinstate Von Bock to a command role (he had been retired the prior winter). So this is not correct but allowed me to get past the fact that the game mechanics required two different units.

As far as the 2DSymbolsLg, this is perfect in the released game. If you apply Jisons mod you lose the Tank Corp 'corp' symbol. I have notified him of this for Moscow '42 & Kharkov '43 as this is unique to the games I designed.

Thanks for your comments and interest, I appreciate people highlighting areas that need correction or explanation.

David

RE: Moscow '42 OOB
Hello There,

Thanks for the extremely prompt response - outstanding! (again)

The non issue I raised around the von Weichs Herresgruppe commmand was intended to be a bit toungue in cheek as you probably guessed, but your comments on that, and the soloution to Heinrici are very much appreciated.

The 2DSymbolslg attached above does also give us the colour bands on the HQ's - but again as you say this is a non issue from game the functionality POV.

However we definately do need another title releasing before Christmas to spend our pennies on ..... if not I will just end up with more socks and undies! LMAO

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

Cheers

Chris

Just a little note: I have corrected this in MapMod for M42 and K43 now. Smile
