modern British brigade makeup

I'm thoroughly enjoying playing my 2 MC Danube Front games, both of which I'm NATO. I've never really got the chance in my time of service to serve beside any British units and get to understand their recon heavy mentality.

Are there any Brits or experts on British military knowledge out there who can explain to me why the British seem so recon heavy? The composition seems different to other NATO nations, I just can't see why they rely so much on such flimsy vehicles as the Scimitar?

I can see the benefits of a good recon screen, in the game at least. But if hit before they can withdraw...ouch....

Just a curious question I guess...
