Tech Question -- Taking a Flyer (MW)
I was a first-day purchaser of JTS:MW.

I have a solid-state boot drive on my PC and a regular HD on which I install all my games.

Not long after installing MW, my PC went down with an HD crash.

Ever since, I have been not been able to get MW to install. It runs a bit, the install picture appears, and an error message presents itself indicating the installation is corrupt.

Full disclosure: I contacted JTS support and it went WAY beyond the call trying to get me up and running again. They even offered me a refund. The thing is, I really LIKE MW and want to play it on this, my main, PC.

So, to the assembled, any thoughts?

I've tried a registry scour (actually JTS support did it for me using GTM). I've tried unpacking the file and installing manually.

Bottom line: nothing has worked.

Any assistance appreciated.

Best,

Jim

I can understand: MW is a fun game and one of my favorites in the series.

What is the exact error message you receive?

That is odd - it should install. Did you have JTS de-authorize your original install/PC setup (to be sure it's not a DRM issue)?

You can right click the installer and with certain Compression/ZIP programs such as WinRAR, look at the contents.

I can't remember what kind of installer JTS uses - but if it's like the HPS installers, then you can force the installer to update you current installation. One way to get it to do this is just delete the contents of your game directory.

Another route: Not sure what is wrong with your current game install of MW, but you can copy the entire game directory and paste it into another folder and have a running copy.

Well, the message is: "The configuration data for this product is corrupt."

I doubt it's a registration issue because the installation never gets anywhere near that far. I never even get to select a destination folder for the install.

It's what made me think it was a registry issue (and frankly I think it still is somehow), but, as I said, a registry scrub did not good...

After doing a registry scrub, you might try searching the registry for "John Tiller Software" just to make sure it got everything. The error message does seem to suggest it is an issue with stuff left over in your registry. By the way, I have Windows 7 and I'm also running on a SSD, so that setup shouldn't be an issue for you. (I only have a single hard drive, but I daresay that shouldn't make a difference.)

If it isn't leftover entries in the registry on directories and files on your hard drive, then my best guess is that some system file(s) got corrupted during your crash. In which case, you might try doing a system restore to a point prior to your crash (see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...em-restore for more details).

Maybe a dumb question, have you tried one of those registry cleaner programs? Wish I could help more.
