Zipped files?

Zipped files?
As I've been playing this a very long time, I always zip files. Back in the day it was a matter of avoiding file corruption and it seemed to be a major problem. If you didn't zip then somewhere along the way the file would no longer work.

Now, I'm noticing that it is not always used by folks. Is file corruption no longer an issue? Is e-mail handling the larger file attachments well, making the whole point of file zipping no longer as critical?

Just wondering...

RE: Zipped files?
I used to zip file attachments to emails. But along the way, I just got away from doing so. Never had a problem. Knock on wood ...

RE: Zipped files?
I do it out of habit, but the file sizes are so small that it really doesn't matter. I suppose it's possible that some email client might flag a .bte file, but unlikely. The only time it really helps is when you want to contain several files in one folder.

Everyone I play saves a backup of the last turn, so even if something got corrupted, they just resend, but I can't remember the last time it happened.

Same here. Large campaign files I zip, smaller battle files not. jonnyPropeller Hat

RE: Zipped files?
I use to zip PBEM files religiously, as I was originally taught to do however, 99% of the guys I play these days don't do it, so I stopped doing it, too.

Mostly still zip as standard unless my opponent doesn't, I've had a few go tits now and then but not often and that many. I think it was more to do with size in the old days when we were all on slow modems.

RE: Zipped files?
I just zip them out of habit - that was how I was taught and cannot really think of any other reason.

RE: Zipped files?
I zip files both out of habit and because I can never get, a first time sent, unzipped file to transfer to my game folders. Confused
I'm sure there is a way but I have yet to learn it. Read

I find zipping worth the extra effort. Farmer
