RE: It's Been Awhile
Hey Gary, nice pics and thanks for sharing!

The bottom one is interesting in that it looks like T-34's with a captured Sdkfz 251/1 but my eyes could be deceiving me on the tanks. Opps! Wait a minute they are captured T-34's in German service, nice!!

The one above that shows German panzergrenadiers riding a StuG but none are riding on the Tigers, strange to see that.

Cheers!
John

I wondered about that also but I imagined that the infantry was going into the attack with the Stug and the Tigers where going to cover them. Helmet Smile

RE: It's Been Awhile
Nice pics, thanks! Here's a little something to share on my behalf.

The restauration work of a well-preserved Hurricane MkI has just been completed a week ago:

In the words of the Finnish Aviation Museum (Google translation only, sorry, feeling lazy just now...)

Quote:The Hawker Hurricane achieved immortal fame in 1940 during the famous "Battle of Britain". The Finnish Air Force purchased a total of 12 Hurricanes from Britain in the 1940. Out of them, 10 machines was flown to Finland during the the end of the Winter War, which , however, did not at that time see any fighting.

Finland Hurricane fleet utilization remained low due to their small number and acute lack of spare parts . The aircraft flew mainly during the early stages of the Continuation War . Last Hurricanes were stored already in 1943.

HC -452 is the most successful Finnish Air Force's use of the Hurricane , and also the only one saved from the scrapping after the war. HC -452 's museum value is based its high level of authenticity. The aircraft unit has been preserved in excellent condition and it is both the manufacturing stage of the cloth covering the original Finnish war paint . Thus, the HC -452 is the best -preserved in its original Air Force during the last war used by the military machine. The Museum investigation also revealed that it is likely to be the world's second oldest extant Mk . I subtype Hawker Hurricane .

HC -452 has been previously featured in Central Finland Aviation Museum exhibition until 1989 , after which the machine was stored . Machine conservation began in the early autumn of 2010. Conservation work as a starting point the machine was the authenticity of the Preservation and enhancement of the . The museum's aim was to make the HC -452 complete as possible and bring the machine up in wartime appearance and the features. Use of trails and the patina is desired to maintain the clearly visible.

Perty, isn't she!

PS The blue swastikas are of the 1917 fame, when they were adopted to use as a national insignia for FAF. Symbol of good luck, at the time... Helmet Rolleyes They were replaced by a white-blue-white roundel in 1944.

Here's the restauration blog with commentary in English as well. http://hurricanehc-452.blogspot.fi/
