Game Scoring

Feedback Needed  Game Scoring
I know we have had the same numbers system for years but looking at the numbers it seems to me that it would be more fair if, like in motor racing, there was a points share which benefits the loser more.
For example, regardless of the size of the defeat the loser only gets 5 pts. I would suggest that this should only be the case in Overwhelming defeats and that the points for losing, especially if only marginally, should be increased as follows, based on there being 60 pts available:
1. Overwhelming - 55 -5
2. Decisive - 50 -10
3. Major - 45 -15
4. Medium - 40-20
5. Minor - 35 - 25
6. Draw - 30-30

What do you guys think? It is certainly a better reflection of the performance of the loser.

Can we consider and take a vote (poll)?

Regular players' thoughts very much appreciated.

Thanks

Air Master

ps Also, I note that some results have been scored with double points - what is the logic behind this? I know it must be written down somewhere, just that I haven't found it (sorry).

RE: Game Scoring
That's an interesting idea Air Master.
It would be interesting to see how people would vote on that system.
it would give a good incentive to keep striving for a best case result even if you knew from early on you were likely to take a loss.

The double points thing is for non Meeting Engagement games, and was in place from very early on at The Blitz. At least it was normal procedure when I joined in 2001.
Not sure why though I have a suspicion that it was supposed to reflect the extra work that would go into playing an advance or assault.
Really not sure now.

Anyway, I would vote if there was a poll.

RE: Game Scoring
2x points came around in 1999, implemented by Steel God after discussing it on the board. I brought the topic up that there was no reason for a player to want to defend when he suffers a 2-1 point ratio and the attacker dictates the battle while the defender for the most part sits and sucks on it.

I am not sure the point win/lose ratio can be redone as this is a formula spread across all the boards, so changing us may change all, I would have to check on it.

I will also vote.
I think I proposed something similar maybe 2 or 3 years ago. But it was not accepted.
I still believe that a player should see some benefit for a good withdrawal if he is losing the game. Otherwise, like you say, you only get 5 points irrespective of the number of units he looses, so why bother to withdraw at all. I real life a commander would not throw his remaing units carelessly at the opponent even though defeat is a certainty.

OK, thanks chaps - how many do we need to propose a vote?

And, is there any reason why SP should be linked to other games? Surely this should not limit our select community.

RE: Game Scoring
Because the entire blitz is using the same data base, can't change us without changing the entire site which isn't going to happen.

Before anything happens you must play test the new scoring and determine how it affects things; the current system SP SCORE was play tested over 50 games before being adopted and is now being looked at again for tweaking. It was also compared to the other ladder to ensure it is in ratio as before you had guys on one ladder where everyone was a Field Marshall because the games were quick to play and the points awarded were too high. Once you have determined that the new system does not adversely affect our ladder and the Blitz ladder (all ladders are in ratio, so a General on the SP ladder, if converted to Combat Mission, would also be a General) then a poll must be had with majority of active players voting to change, as of right now that is 21 for yes. Also you must show that it is superior to what is current.

As for points awarded for running your units off the map, IMO that means you are not giving your opponent a tough fight with everything you have. It is a game, no combat force would allow itself to suffer 80% losses like in just about every game of SP and say "we won". The attack would be cancelled at 15%, if that.
