Story in strategy games

What is your opinion about the story in strategy games, is it important, do they need one?

For me this is one of the things that make start playing a new strategy game, if there is a good story present with detailed description of the events it is a huge plus.

For the historical games we represent here, they already come with a built in story. Some are hypothetical and then agreed, a story to support the battle is good.
