BTW, I'm running several different installations with different patch-levels and never had a problem.

Despite an initial different statement on the forum, the "winSPMBT V7-V9 Consolidation upgrade.exe" includes Patches v7 to v9 so you can go from a v6 installation straight to v9 with this patch.

Same counts for winSPWW2, the "winSPWW2 V6-V8 Consolidation Upgrade.exe" includes patch v6 to v8 and so you can go from a v5 installation straight to v8 with this patch.
