New Game  Alan R. Arvold's Banzai Blitz! for Rising Sun now available
Greetings, Rising Sun aficionados out there!

Felt left out with all the Panzerblitz and Leader action lately? No more! Here's some serious Thunder & Lightning for your favorite game of the series: Rising Sun.

My thanks to Alan for again sharing his work with community.

From his Design Notes:

Quote:Banzai Blitz was originally a variant article for the game Panzerblitz that brought it into the Pacific theater of war. It was published in the magazine “The Spartan Journal #10” back in 1976, although it was originally written in the early Seventies.

The author was Norman Beveridge, one of the early leaders in Panzerblitz variant development of the times. The article introduced variant rules to cover certain aspects of ground combat in the Pacific. It also had two counter sheets, eight mapsheets, and eight scenarios. It was one of the better Panzerblitz variant articles of it time, although it has been far surpassed by the more modern tactical game systems of today.

Still I thought that the scenarios were worth converting to the Rising Sun computer game of the John Tiller’s Campaign Series.

There's eight scenarios in all, here's the first four of them. Enjoy! I sure did Salute

Guadalcanal; Battle of Matanikau:

After the defeat of the Japanese assault on "Bloody Ridge", the Americans decide to go over to the offensive and expand their defensive perimeter.

Here elements of the 2nd Battalion/5th Marines, 1st Battalion/7th Marines, and the 1st Marine Raider Battalion, attack Japanese positions on the western edge of their perimeter, which is defended by units of the 35th Independent Infantry Brigade. However, they found the Japanese defenses much tougher than they expected and after a long fight, pulled back to their own defensive positions.

[Guadalcanal] [AXIS/ALLIED] [HISB] [GD]

Guadalcanal; Lunga Field:

After the failure of the Japanese offensive in September, the Japanese High Command sent the 2nd Infantry Division to drive the US Marines off of the island.

After landing on Guadalcanal in early October, the division marched through thick jungle to get into their attack positions for an assault against the Marine airfields, postponing the attack twice due to delays caused by the adverse jungle terrain slowing down their march.

Finally on the 25th of October the Japanese were ready and for the next two nights assaulted the Marine southern perimeter with the goal of capturing both Henderson and Lunga airfields. This scenario depicts the left wing attack on the first night.

The gallant and well armed defenders of this isolated post have held off the Japanese invasion for many days, even defeating one invasion attempt early on, and survived intense aerial bombardment.

However, the Japanese finally feel confident to invade the island again.

[Vangunu Island] [AXIS/ALLIED] [HISB] [GD]

Vangunu Island, Wickham Anchorage:

At the start of the New Georgia campaign, part of the US 1st Marine Raider Regiment landed on Vangunu Island to capture the Japanese naval base at Wickham Anchorage.

Historically two companies from the 4th Marine Raider Battalion attacked the base on June 30th. The base was defended by the Japanese 43rd Naval Defense Unit. The initial attack bogged down in the face of stiff Japanese resistance and it was not until a few days later when the US Army's 2nd Battalion, 103rd Infantry Regiment arrived on the scene that the combined Marine/Army regiment captured the base.

This scenario explores what may have happened if the entire Raider Regiment had made the initial assault.
