Engineers and repairing bridges
Playing von Earlmann's scenario The Road to Oboyan. My Allied opponent has blown a bridge. It does not appear that the Axis have Engineers designed for bridge repairing. My question is, can ordinary engineer units repair the bridge ?

RE: Engineers and repairing bridges
Bridging Engineers were actually introduced already in 1.03. See Manual section 5.18.1 for more information of their use in game. They are special units able to create Medium Bridges.
Should you not have access to them, in that case as ItB pointed out, regular Engineers can build Lt Bridges only.

For this scenario there are no new bridging engineers specified. So I assume the engineer units available are only capable of repairing light foot traffic bridges ?

Yes, that is correct. Regular Engineers create light bridges only.

RE: Engineers and repairing bridges
Hey Gil:
Check this but as I recall when we first started playing around/testing the bridge builder engineers we found you couldn't build a new bridge on top of an old destroyed bridge. Not sure if it was a glitch, possibly it's been fixed, just an FYI. We just built on an adjacent hexside, or the next hex if need be. Still, it's a bit frustrating to discover since the engineer units often take multiple turns to create a bridge, so it doesn't jump off the map at you.
Regards,
Dan

RE: Engineers and repairing bridges
Hello Dan, it should be possible to build a bridge over a destroyed one. I can't test this right now, but I have a couple of scenarios where retreating force can blow the bridges behind, and the advancing force needs to rebuild them. I am pretty sure about this as in both cases there was a full hex bridge with a river hex side depicting the major bridge itself having been damaged.
Edit these were East Front though, which game is this? I mean the one you saw the erroneous behaviour?

RE: Engineers and repairing bridges
Hey Petri....how goes it?
It's been awhile...
It was shortly after they introduced the bridge builders, we ran the "Boot Camp" scenario involving bridge builders. I believe that was East Front II but not sure. As you point out, it may have been fixed. I know you'll try to track this down because that's what you do Petri, but don't sweat it, this is a fairly rare event.
Not a big problem really just something an old man noticed and felt compelled to shout to the world...
Keep your head down and your powder dry Petri.
Regards,
Dan
