Seven Years War mod

Seven Years War mod
I've decided I don't like the 2D terrain in JTS Seven Years War so I've put together a little mod that harmonizes it with my Napoleonic mods.

The problem with the terrain in the release version is that although it's readily apparent that hexes are at different elevations, it's hard tell which ones are higher and lower.

This mod uses most of the symbols from the Napoleonic mod.  Apart from slight repaint of the unlimbered artillery symbol, the only innovation is the infantry marching column symbol (looks very similar to the infantry line symbol, only grey).

The mod also replaces the game's Musket and Pike victory music with something a little more appropriate to the period.  I've also included two desktop icons that can be used to distinguish battle scenarios from campaign games.

I've added a link for downloading this mod to the complete list of links for my Napoleonic mods.

In addition, the mod can be downloaded from here:

RE: Seven Years War mod
Where is your current link list for the Napoleonic mods? If France is dark blue would infantry blue be possible for that symbol? Cavalry yellow should be used as well since it would show dichotomy with the artillerist red. The lengths and shapes could be changed such as shorter infantry line rectangle, longer cavalry rectangle, square and typical artillery icon unlimbered. Showing contrast between depth of different formations while maintaining common NATO counter attritbutes. Orchards should probably look like sparse trees instead of regulated orchards despite that being a common use for the tile. The mapping looks better for the eye when it is messier. While the units clash with a formed and orderly look.

The elevation color contrasts do look better good job. There are artifacts in the slope borders. I think thinner slopes would look better and in fact rather use the dark brown border overlay since it shows properly with forested terrain whereas slopes and near-colored tiles do not.

RE: Seven Years War mod
This is the 18th century. France is white, Prussia is dark blue.

Cavalry should only be yellow in the ACW.

The Napoleonic mods tend to be listed separately in the Napoleonic mod section, but for a handy complete list with lots of large screenshots, go here:

Nation background only matters in that the colors are not similar. Baby blue for infantry, yellow for cavalry, and red for artillery are the current NATO color associations to those corps. Thanks for the link list. Strange place to post it since Matrix doesn't publish NB ;]

Checking up on it NATO doesn't have branch color regulations. I always assumed everyone adopted our cavalry/armor yellow... Just a stupid suggestion since arty is represnted as a red square.

RE: Seven Years War mod
Nato didn't exist in the 18th century.  Looking at the German waffenfarbe from WW2 would be a little more useful, but the best would be to look at pre-modern uniform art. The collected Knoetl prints and Die Franzoische Armee are a good place to start.

The Matrix thread has all the screenshots from all the games in the series that I've finished modding.  It also has larger screenshots that are easier to see than the one on the blitz.

[I'm feeling weirdly prescient.  Ordinarily I would have posted a link to the Grogheads forum, but that seems to be down at the moment.  That's why I post the Napoleonic mods in multiple locations].

RE: Seven Years War mod
In case anyone was wondering, this mod works with the latest patch.

Always patch the base game first before you apply the mod.

(In other words, if you add the patch to your game, you'll have to re-install the mod).
