RE: New Panzer Campaign Graphics
An earlier poster thought one was of Zhitomir.

RE: New Panzer Campaign Graphics
Zhitomir refers to the screen shot that shows German and Soviet units.

Based on map, it, does look like Kiev in 1941.

So there might be a Kiev 41 and a Kiev 43 in the works?

RE: New Panzer Campaign Graphics
The city I posted earlier looked nothing like this one...

I'll never leave labels on again (Zhitomir) - at least for an unannounced game!!!

I may have to have a mini competition with a free copy of something if someone can work out what the city was that I posted earlier...

Ok, back on topic...

I'm planning to show you some new winter graphics for Panzer Battles that I'm really happy with in the next blog post or so as the next title(s) will be in cold weather and we hadn't to date done much with snow/frozen.

I guess Market-Garden not going to happen anytime soon.  Would be cool if one or both were Bulge area.  Not likely, but, one can always hope.   Big Grin

RE: New Panzer Campaign Graphics
That looks more like Kiev.

In your first pair of screenshots today, the four bridges, with two rail bridges as the outer bridges and what I thought was the canalized Dnepr tributary on the left bank fit. The elevation differences and rivers entering the screenshot from the west also fit. That's what made me think it was Kiev. It's quite similar to your second screenshot, but parts of the infrastructure didn't (a railroad running north along the right bank, the infrastructure on the left bank) and there being no suburbs and industrial zones on the left bank.

The screenshot where you left the map label on was just a screenshot of Zhitomir, saying that teams were always working on projects. That could've been a lot of projects. Ukraine '41, Ukraine '44, Ukraine '43-44, Ukraine/Russia '43 covering just Kutuzov/Rumyantsev with Zhitomir somewhere along the south-western map edge. It's the counters, specifically the NATO unit types, that gave it away. You also posted the labelled screenshot more than 6 years ago. I doubt I would've remembered without my interest in the battle, not to mention the casual observer when you posted those screenshots in the blog.

I'm replying on the back of John's note to highlight my agreement that the free flow of ideas is key. We want to hear them. The last thing I intended with my follow-up post was to shut down the conversation, but rather highlight that some of the more extreme thoughts were off the mark. Things such as 'old' Nato counters with thicker lines will still be there in the legacy graphics and its just as easy for a player to mix and match. Want the grey primary roads and railways from the gold release, copy the applicable file across etc.

Thanks, David. Good to hear that I misjudged your mood. And very good to hear that we agree that feedback is key. The importance of being able to access honest opinions cannot be overstated. Even when some may be be misinformed or seem disrespectful. The alternative of people not sharing or simply trying to tell you what they think you want to hear would be truly ghastly.

And that map looks a bit like Riga to me. Probably just wishful thinking and an overactive imagination...

Well, maybe i sound rough but one of my virtues... but at same time one of my defects is be honest in a brutal "soviet style"  Horse5

I expect you didnt take this bad Strela, i know PzC (and other series) are alive thanks to WDS great work and i expect see more examples of it  Helmet Wink

I really like JTS games and i am very active "spreading the word" in other forums, in one of them we move in a pair of years from dedicated threads for JT titles to have a section only for them and 2 clubs apart other activities.... but of course are things i dont like in series and i like comment it...

PD: now one thing i am waiting a lot if is see a live transmission of a battle between 2 players and last thing i follow in youtube was a battle played by one of them VS AI.

RE: New Panzer Campaign Graphics
Hi everyone,

Yes, I know I have been quiet since the teaser thread and have neither confirmed or denied anything - all in good time!

Of interest we continue to adjust the graphics that were shown in the WDS blog post and this thread. They will be locked down by the time the next game in the PzC series is released, but we are focused on making them as good as we can in all situations. I have also spent time tidying up the smaller zoom graphics and am pretty happy with them.

Probably the most contentious thing that was suggested in the changes was the adjustment to fortifications and obstacles/minefields. I wanted to share the latest thinking and get opinions from the members here.

We have essentially gone back to what was shown in the Gold releases - but in higher resolution. The one big change I wanted feedback specifically on was minefields/obstacles. In this first screen shot, we're showing the minefields with both a tab with the number of mine factors as well as a red hexagon and a representation of the number of mines in the hex. Obstacles are the same with a gray/brown hex border, tab and obstacles in hex (all images can be right clicked for full size);

[Image: Post%2020200614_01.png]

Here is the same image, but with the hex border removed;
[Image: Post%2020200614_02.png]

Also note the changes to fortifications which essentially have the tab with the first letter of the entrenchment type as well as the colour coded hex border.

In this second series of shots, you can see similar defenses on the beachfront. Here they are with hex borders;

And again the equivalent shot without the hex borders on the mines/obstacles;

Please note the scenarios these shots were taken from have a ground condition of mud and hence the overall brown hex colours. The graphics shown for everything else like rivers etc are the latest iteration as well. Things like the light bulb effect have been toned down.  I have also built the non-hex versions and will share some shots with those soon as well.

Thanks,

David

Let me know your thoughts on both entrenchments and mines/obstacles.
