If you have used Modern war have you edited any weapons in the database? adding the beam attribute to a weapon in a fantasy setting might make good dragon-fire-breath, or in a scifi setting some sort of laser. worth experimenting with if you haven't looked at it already.
There's a lot of fun to be had with all this and you've done a lovely job, but I have to admit its probably not my cup of tea.
I do edit the Database to make my favourite weapons more deadly.
I normally make Mortars and Sniper Rifles as well as normal Rifles more damaging -like the normal infantryman to have a greater presence.
Also make Smgs range 4 and a bit more powerful as well to encourage close in fighting.
Adjust Shotguns when present to be range 2 and deadly, like them from my FPS games.
Don't normally touch Lmgs or Hmgs ,there range is too long already -same with Artillery.
Also added the X reliability to common small arms and light mortars.
I change the .pdts a fair bit as well ,the fire value i have upped to near low100/high300 type values from memory ,tiny bit more for assaults giving a slight edge to the attacker. Also make protection values for Cover like trees, buildings much less .And make move to or from ground 0 cost and give infantry 25 move points and make infantry clear terrain cost 5 .Few other small changes maybe. These in combination change gameplay a 'lot' especially with weapon database edits.
In Modern War ,Have changed the explosion/fire animation number to introduce a flame effect for m203(just a different animation number i picked-seems like quite a few animations are unused).
Did not know about Beam attribute. Might try that.
Another thing I do in solo games is give my leaders an extra chance at rally by saving before the attempt- bit naughty but I more often than not play as attacker and most scenarios are favoured to the defence..
I also do some infantry weapon unloading/loading when in game too ,find that is a bit of fun-even grabbing enemy weapons (pistols, snipers, lmgs, mortars) from the ground to round out my squads or boost my Leaders armoury.
