CSME Multi Launch Rockets
I was reading through the OOBs for some ideas for my tabletop wargaming.
They are very nicely done and informative.

I came across the
Platoon 23.oob
This is for Egypt.

I was interested in the Rocket Artillery information.
I found the "BM-21 Grad 122mm MRL" and was confused by the operational years -
"52 1 85 12".
Is this correct ,did they become available in 1952?
I thought it was released in 1963 from wikipedia page.

Also I was looking through the
weapons.pdt and the line for the BM-21
and thought maybe it might of had longer range?

I compared the BM-14,BM-24 and BM-21.
No expert but I thought the longest ranged of these 3 was the BM-24 and the weapons.pdt suggests the BM-24.
Is there a chance these weapons are maybe mixed up in the OOB?Then maybe the dates of 1952 and 1961 for these weapons is close to what I thought they were? Considering it looks like USSR supplied Egypt with these weapons straight off the production line?

Bit pedantic question ,but I wanted an accurate date and weapon range for my tabletop adaption.

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
edit-
I just had another look at the wikipedia pages for these 3 weapons,(this is when they entered service)
BM-14 ,1952 date.
BM-24,1947 date.
BM-21,1963 date.
My reading of the Egypt OOB gives(this is their operating start year in EGYPT)
BM-14 ,1961 date.
BM-24,1961 date.
BM-21,1952 date.

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
I asked on a Reddit Forum about ranges for these weapons.
I wanted a comparison between something basic like a 81mm mortar and longer ranged weapons including the BM series using a ratio for range.
I got a good answer there, thought maybe you could consider it when the edits are made perhaps.
This was the answer I got,

"Using Fistful of TOWs' stats:

81mm Mortar: 1

120mm Mortar: 1.25

105mm Arty: 2.5

155mm Arty: 3

I don't know of any 175mm guns

BM-14: 2

BM-21: 4.5

BM-24: 2.5"

How do the numbers translate to metres?

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
I haven't got the Fistful of TOWs rules myself.
I only got a response from someone else in ratio form.

However another user chimed in with a common 81mm mortar analogy,
"Pick your 81mm mortar of choice, for example the L16 has a max range of 5650m, so divide any other weapon's max range by that to get the relative ratio."

The reddit thread is here,
https://old.reddit.com/r/wargaming/comme...ry_ranges/

I am using a virtual tabletop for my game at present using Hex of Steel as my engine.I am using the CSME stats as the parameters in Hex of Steel(HOS) . Its working really well.

I do like CSME by the way ,I am merely using CSME in another format.

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
Since we are updating CSME to 2.30 early this year, I am happy to tweak some data as you find issues.

I presume it was just an error in regards to the Egyptians where items were added just based on Soviets and forgetting to alter the start dates.

There's a lot of units and countries and years, so things get missed.

I try though!

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
Barly,

Is this really important?

I've played JTCS since it's inception in late 1990's. Also Divided Ground and CSME when they both first came out and all the renditions with all the other and current games after that. Now Vietnam too.  All of that seems to have worked fine for me and I don't see the point of a mass change based on data that I/Jason haven't seen yet.

However, if something needs to be changed, let's change it.

But meter's like Jason says would be helpful not ratios IMO.

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
Accurate start dates are important, so fixing them would be good.

And if the ranges are incorrect, they should also be addressed. That could just be a matter of copying the wrong ranges from one weapon to another. It happens with the massive data sets we're using/building.

RE: CSME Multi Launch Rockets
I would not put too much trust in any Wiki sources.

Here are two screen shots from SP:MBT and for Egypt they seem consistent with this much better source.
