World in Flames Redux

RE: World in Flames Redux
Deturk and I are finishing up. Waiting for his last turn this morning. I have secured a Major Victory for the Allies.

Deturk and I are of a mind that this scenario is balanced in such a way as to provide an advantage for the Allied player. However, we see that some Axis players have achieved Major Victories. Can anyone share with us how they, as the Axis player, achieved such a result? Does the Axis player fight a delaying/retreating action, preserving units and inflicting casualties along the way, rather than standing and dying on the VP hex locations?

I played the Allies against Schwerpunkt75 and that's exactly what he did. I took the far southwest objective uncontested, he just abandoned it right off the bat. I took the far northwest objective with great cost and before I was in a position to assault, when he just backed off and headed to the high-value hill in the middle.

He used all his air power right away trying to take out the exposed artillery in the northwest. He was pretty effective, not completely, though. I used smoke to try to get into the hill big objectives and got within a hex , ready to assault...and then my guys got a call from their union rep to walk off the job. Or rather run off the job.

Schwerpunkt75 gave my a pointer after the game concerning my arty that comes in from the northeast. I won't divulge it though, since games are in progress.

My artillery was effective, smoke helped a lot, but my shooters were terrible. Either bad die rolls or they just stunk. Once disrupted, they tended to stay disrupted. Unions, ugh.

Schwerpunkt75, by the way, is really good. Eat your Wheaties before you play him. I had toast  Smile

Hi,

As the Axis I stood my ground at each objective to force my opponent to either not attack an objective or split his forces.

With objectives he was not going to attack and or reach I withdrew all but one unit towards the main objective.

Units that were not on objectives were moved towards the main objective.  When an objective looked like it was going to fall, I retreated the units towards the main objective.

I used the airpower to knock out the exposed (and powerful) guns on the hill.

The deadline is December 6. All first round players have reported their games except Nim80r vs. The Hemp. Once they report their result we can move on.

In other news, Big Ivan is having computer woes. Not sure what's going on, though I can guess. It was manufactured shortly after the abacus was released.
