Yes, the victory conditions and objectives don't make much sense. It's unfortunate that they were not adjusted in the alt version.

Agreed.  It is one of the most poorly designed scenarios I've come across in recent memory.  Neither the Base Scenario or the ALT version seem to portray what the historical reality was (i.e.  Conduct a Major Spoiling attack such that the Axis forces will commit their panzer reserve in the South not the North where the real attack was conducted).  The lack of objective points relative to the victory levels encourages the Axis player to play in an ahistorical manner.  Frankly I will surprised if a single Allied Player manages a Drawn game.
