You can ask Weasel if he can find a mentor to show you the ropes, that is a good way to get into the system and a battle or two under your belt.

Most common settings are the default ones.

No common house rules exist, usually 10-15% for arty is used but not everyone limit that. You need to negotiate settings for each battle separately.
