Major Applequist was watching his men as they once again boarded their Hueys. The battle for the unnamed hill east of highway 55 was over. Sporadic gunfire could still be heard as the last NVA stragglers were mopped up.
Victory on the hill had as always come with a price. Alpha company had taken serious casualties and an entire platoon in dead and wounded was being medevaced.

Not that HQ seemed to care. They were too busy with their statistics, celebrating a 20-1 kill ratio. This was of course attributed to the Gunships, never mind the grunts. Applequist had an uneasy feeling that HQ would call off the operation and claim victory after analysing their graphs and diagrams. Despite the fact that it was still a long way to go before the highway was secured.
With Pogues in the rear running things anything could happen.

On the radio, Captain Wetherholt could be heard reporting that he had captured the village Ap tran Vinh 2. Applequist signalled his men to hurry up, it was time to move out..
