Infantry morale/suppression question.

RE: Infantry morale/suppression question.
IIRC, The chance of a unit surrendering goes way up if it's surrounded and taking fire. I think if it's retreat route is cut off it takes another moral check, but I'm not so sure about that last. It varies from version to version. The SP Cammo guys pay the surrounded thingie more attention then the Matirx guys.
I don't think the effectiveness of the fire thy are taking changes. CM has a different scale, being a tactical only game. In SP, when you get into a battlefield that is 80 sq. Km's you are crossing over into the operational level of warfare. So a unit could be surrounded, but at a range of 4 Km's. I don't think that should matter. In SP there is a 4hex (200 meter) range gate that affects a lot of things. I might affect moral and rally, I'm not sure. In CM an infantry unit can be behind a building, but in SP, it's not so precise, because of the scale. I think the program assumes the infantry unit will find the best cover in a hex regardless of the direction the fire is coming from. Vehicles are different, of course. In SP, Infantry units don't have a front or rear. They have a direction they are facing, and get a small searching bonus, or at least they used to.
In one of the early versions of WW2, an op firing unit would pay a to hit penalty for changing facing during op fire, but I don't know if that is still true.
