Dash to St. Vith:

As the Germans are kicking back in St. Vith, putting their muddy jackboots up on the coffee table and seeing it they can get ESPN on the television, Hobbes graciously offers his sword, hilt first.

The battle started out poorly for the Jerries. Hobbes' well placed ambushes took out full platoons of infantry on bikes and extracted a heavy toll in Hetzers. Once the ambushes were rooted out, and the Jerries had a chance to lick their wounds and regroup, the second phase of the German push got underway.

Initially, to start phase two, the Germans pressed hard on the flanks, making modest geographical, yet significant mathematical, gains. As Hobbes put his fire brigades in motion to address those concerns, the Germans dusted off their offensive playbook and went with "what got them here": Three yards and a cloud of dust. If you do that four times in a row, you get a first down. If you do it enough times in a row, you get to put your feet up in St. Vith. Oh, and the Panthers and German arty didn't hurt either. ;)
