That is somewhat correct but I would avoid the "Edit values" selection at all costs. The problem is that you don't know what the other values are in the .dat files and once you edit all values then it will update every unit with whatever .dat file you have (maybe an old one). I would just open the OOB editor and find the unit and make the changes and save it (as Richrd said). But then select "Edit unit values" from the list and it will only edit the values of that highlighted component.
