Scenario disaster

I've altered scenario's plenty of times and thought I knew all the pitfalls. I was modifying the K43 full campaign. Only minor changes to the OOB. No units added just changes to existing units. I worked on one army at a time, north to south, German and Russian. Frequently I opened the editor, occasionally the main program, to check. Everything was OK. Finally I got to Armee Abt Kempf and the PDT. When I next opened the editor, I got the dreaded 'File not read'. No scenario will open in the editor, no scenario can be played. Any ideas on how to get back to working order? A weeks work down the tubes and months and months of OOB organising. I can't bear the idea of just starting over.
