German pilot who saved American bomber crew dies

This being a story of a human and a noble man feeling compassion for people in trouble, I myself however can not find justification for such behaviour during wartime.

Perhaps mr. Stigler hadn´t lost any of his own family members in bombings and didn´t think his actions could have personal consequenses if mr. Brown and his crew came back another day with a new bomber attacking his home town.... If a Finnish fighter pilot had saved the lives of a Soviet bomber crew attacking my country in similar situation, I´d consider this pilot as a mere traitor.
