RE: New Member Tourny Interest
Oh, in the "sour grapes" department, I may as well kick things off! :-)
No big deal, but it may interest all to know that I think the German and Russian T-34s may be modelled differently in CM:BB. When I was doing pre-tourney tests for POS' Perimeter Tourney, I was actually surprised to see that in a straight shoot out between two platoons, the Germans almost always come out ahead, all other things being equal (crew quality, etc.). I just did another small test and it seems to confirm what I found out then.
Just now I did a test with the current Boot Camp Tourney file - I deleted everything but the Captured T-34s, and the Russian T-34s, evened the terrain to open ground and Level 7, and padlocked them out to 300 metres range in line abreast.
I played twelve games, 6 as Russian, 6 as German.
In each, I played until the game was over, gave no orders, just hit go.
The results as Russian were:
2 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
0 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
0 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
0 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
3 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
2 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
The results as German were:
3 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
1 German tank lost, 5 Russian lost
5 German tanks lost, 2 Russian lost
2 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
3 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
2 German tanks lost, 5 Russian lost
The Germans did manage one win, which is encouraging.
I am baffled by why this is - I don't think it is mere luck as I tried this experiment before. If others want to reproduce this, I'd be interested in their results.
Not trying to call into question the scenario or complain about "balance" or anything. You take your chances in life as in war, but it may interest ratzki for future use that the T-34 and captured T-34 as a "balancing" mechanism probably isn't. I would have mentioned this before had I remembered it or considered it important. It may not be important at that, but I find it interesting. Wonder if there is some penalty imposed on the Russians in BFC's data for crew quality or something, it being 1941?
