6 years US Navy 1985 - 1991. I was just about signed up to go Armor in 1985 when the Navy recruiter told me I qualified for the nuke program with its bonus money and immediate E-4. Plus my Dad had been in the Navy. So I went into the Navy. 4 years onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CVN-72.

Dad was a Navy doctor, Submarines. USS ETHAN ALLEN, BEN FRANKLIN, and FRANCIS SCOTT KEY.

My grandfather on my Mom's side was USMC, had just finished training and was preparing to go invade Japan when we dropped the bombs and the war ended.

Funny, I don't remember ever asking if my grandfather on my Dad's side was in the military or not.
