I was not questioning your knowledge or maths. You made a statement that was somewhat debateable. I am not trying to contort anything. You -infered- the existance of 8th Army and its subsequent fighting was irrelevant. I only took you to task on it because -on this board- you hold a position of great respect and influence. Maybe you were joking or being flippant. But I don't think you (considering your influence) should make such statements lightly.
Its only about another 100km from El Alamein to Alexandria. El Alamein was quite a fight and the Axis resistance was very tough. Somehow or another they had enough supply to hold up a well supplied and quite superior numerically 8th Army for a week or so before they collapsed.
I don't agree that had the Axis captured Alexandria and/or the delta that they would have been unable to hold it. With the RN gone they could have brought more troops and supplies in by sea. But thats a whole new arguement. I will leave it at that.
