Question on aircraft

Damage to an aircraft is not just any old bullet hole, as soon as an aircraft gets a point of damage it means it has suffered some degree of significant damage. A pilot can't know what exactly is wrong, all he feels is that something is wrong with his plane, it doesn't behave the way it should. Conclusion for the pilot, it's damaged and better get back to base to have it checked out before I crash!
For lightly damaged aircraft it means it probably could have stayed and done a few more runs but the point is that pilot doesn't know this.

Small arms shouldn't fire at aircraft as far as I know. They did so in the past but I think it was taken out quite a while ago (even before the Windows version came out I think). The problem there is that even a 1% chance of hitting and damaging an unarmored aircraft with small arms is still way too high.

Choppers is another thing, if at low altitude and moving slow they're an excellent target. When low and fast they're still a viable target but hitting them gets difficult.
Armor for choppers is fuselage armor btw, the rotor sections tends to be armor value 0. That's why armored choppers get damaged by low calibre weapons.
