I am very happy playing Matrix JTCS on my reliable XP partition while my huge number of Talonsoft games and other old programs are available on my W98 partition. I prefer this to struggling to learn Vista which has a lot of stuff I do not need or use

All good points and don't forget the solid state drives now out (expensive though). Just to note though, Talonsoft and Matrix versionss play just fine on XP, so you might want to bag win98.
