I played a game years ago called, "The Perfect General" and liked the fact that you could use artillery for destroying bridges, blowing up mines and interdiction on roads, etc.

Of course, changes like this could easily change a whole scenario.

So, I gladly accept the rules as currently established.

As far as reducing a village into rubble is not necessarily a good idea. American's tried this in Italy and discovered that it had a couple of big disadvantages: It created some great defensive positions for enemy forces and is sure slowed down allied armor and other mechanized advance.

Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day.
Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
