Volksgrenadiers are often confused with the Volkstrum. Volkstrum are the "cradle to grave" units of ten to 50 year olds with some penal units stirred in. The Volksgrenadiers were combat tested and earned Hitler's blessing for outstanding battlefield performance with the designation as Volksgrenadier Infantry Division. The best of the regular German army infantry.
