It's not restricted to arty units. Z-fire by any unit, arty or not, is not replayed if you have fast artillery ON.

If fast artillery is OFF you'll see Z-fire in the replay as Z-fire. Not as direct fire and not as a plotted artillery plot but as z-fire. All three are distinguishable in the replay.
